According to the regulations of the ODNR website:

It shall be unlawful to use any device capable of transmitting or receiving a person’s voice to aid in the hunting or taking of deer.

That doesn't mean you cant have them for communicating and/or safety reasons.

Man that is vauge.... must be dang near impossible to enforce.... I guess that law in and of itself is just a deterannt... assuming people want to abide by the laws, having one in place will make most folks conform to them.... those who break the law would probably do it anyway, legal or not, right or wrong.

Anyway... sorry for the hi-jack.... don't get down MightyMite.... far far worse could of happened.... could have made a bad shot or something... at least you got to have an encounter!

Even if it was illegal it didnt help at all because it only said "deer in field" and i couldn't even see the field from where i was and the field is like 200 yards long. That could have been anywhere.[&:]

Not really illegal in WI:

Hunters may not use cellular phones, special free radio communications or other
mechanical or electronic amplifying devices, (except hearing aids) to get someone
to tag a deer. It is legal to use electronic devices for reasons other than getting
someone to tag a deer

not sure why cells or walkeys would be illegal if they are there move

Sounds like agood hunt, bummer about the deer spotting you though. And be careful with that cell phone stuf, it is illegal after all.
I know in Ohio it is illegal to use cell phones or walky talkies to "hunt" deer. IE - sending a text to your buddy that a deer is coming his way.

how is calling your buddy and saying there are some deer in a field getting someone to tag a deer. that wording is stupied seems like getting someone to tag a deer would be hey come shot this deer. or hey i shot a deer come tag it. not hey i saw some deer. you might call the local co and ask

Same here in Pa. They can't be used to notify others of the movement of deer.

So what alot of you are sayin is that if you were hunting with a family member or good friend who has never shot a deer, or has for that sake, that you would not notify them by walkie talkie if possible about a deer coming his or her direction? Can't say I know anyone who wouldn't, regardless of what they may say.
