Default private land

long read sorry
well i was taking the trash to the dump tonight and saw adeer on the land next to the dump. allforest trees and overgrown
so i asked the man if he knew the owner and he said i think its vacant land. so i asked at the post office and was told no one has been there since 2001 they moved but still own it shecouldnt remember their name[:@]well i came home and dicided to search the net and remembered the gis system had plots on it. ah ha i found it listed (61 acre plot)i found the last owners name and his new address so i sent him a letter in the mail asking for permission to hunt it and a liability waiver and a return envelope (postage paid)in the letter i asked for him to return it with yes or a no.
edit - for got to mention i told him it was for bowhunting only

how would you have gone about getting permission to hunt it ?
ill be watching the mail for a fer weeks and will post back when i hear any news with either a yes or no

Sounds like you did the only thing you could do. If you can find a phone number I would call him up directly.

Hope you get a positive reply

Parcel Mapping/GIS is great! I have used it to scout for new land, scout current land, etc.

Here is a link to my town's GIS to look at - it gives address, aerial photos, owner name, address, etc...

http://geoaccess.co.dutchess.ny.us/parcelaccess/viewer.htm?&swis=135889&Title=Town%20of%20 Washington&mapservice=twashing&new=yes&amp ;swis=135889

In regards to the OP's question - you did exactly what I would have done.

Well, since he said no and it has partial owners you could try one of the other owners.
Also if this land is undivided land then none of them, know what part they own and you can hunt it with one of the owners permission if it was not divided by survey.

Also , you could see if any of these owners want to sell his or her part and you will be an owner or this undivided property, or get your part surveyed out
