Some times those standing in the forest are the last to see the trees.
See if this helps you understand, maybe even justa little bit.
Like rages, all the facts I know about plane crashesare all second knowledge because I've never personally been in a plane crash either , is that some people survive them, not all but some do. Some mechanical broad heads work all the time, not all ,but some do .[:-]
Seeing a pattern here,Jeff ?
Not all of us have to personallyexperiance afailure in order to avoid it.

But Jim....do you still fly? Do you understand that there are risks in everything we do? Do you think that planes have come a long way in the safety department in the last decades? Do you understand that many crashes are due to pilot error? Do you accept the fact that technology changes and flights are safer today than in any time in our history?

Or do you bury your head in the sand and take a bus.....'cause it don't (hopefully) get airborne?

Do you shoot a compound bow (in lieu of a traditional bow with no moving parts)? Drive a car (in lieu of walking....alleviating the chance of being stranded by the vehicle)? Mow with a lawnmower (in lieu of goats)?

It really doesn't matter if you can physically see the forest or not if you're content wearing blinders.

With all the chronicled plane crashes in our history.....you're gonna step onto one of those death traps?

Amazing

Fly safely.

Critr,
I think you are making a great call there, I also believe that guys with low KE using these big heads are a big part of the reason they get a bad name for poor penetration....We as hunters have to make good common sense (well informed) calls on the equipment that we use. Mechanicalsare not for every set up!!!!!
Wouldn't this be another reason not o use them at long distances with slower speeds and lower KE?

Like said before they are not for everyone and or every set up!!!!! If your set up doesn't produceadequateKE/Momentum/Speed,you don't need to use them. If your set up does produce adequate KE/Momentum/Speed,it will be still beeffective at averagehunting ranges in general!!!! There again for some guys that bowhunt 60-70 yds, that might actually be an issue with any BH used!!! I guess in all reality it would depend on what you call long distances!!!!

Good post GMMAT, I always wondered why some are haters and valor really shows true colors. I have hunted for 33 years now and I have107 deer kills 88 by bow andonly 7 that I have lost and all 7 came from fixedblades, should I throw all that shoot fixed blades underwagon?? No it was me. Valor Ihave shot mech's for the last 6 years now and have killed a book buck all six and under 20 yards so why throw all that shot mech's in the same boat? ignorence!!! If you would like to shoot some time bring it on and I will let you pick the broadhead we shoot fixed size two blade three blade mech's you pick because some of us idots that shoot mech's can tune a bow.. If you want to know why I choose to shoot mech's is because I don't care who you are trying to fool but if you are telling me that at 12 yards you will never miss I will step up and call you the liar you are. When you are staring down a 160 or 180 class buck sh#t happens and when it does I want that big ole hole punched into that buck becauseNOBODY puts the perfect shot everytime and I mean NOBODY!! Just my two cents, if you want to shoot fixed for your own reasons great but don't go and put everyone in the same boat with shooting farther and can't tune a bow.. Sorry GMMAT I can't vote because I love mech's but if I had to pick a fixed blade for your vote it would be a thunder head shot them for 18 years and loved them!!Walt

Maybe you should read posts before making replies. I believe I said MANY, not all, so I didn't throw everybody into the same boat. For somebody that tunes their equipment, or has it tuned regularily, and is a good shot, reallydoesn't matter what they shoot, now does it? But again, not one person has posteda reply stating why they feel a mechanical head is BETTER, or has an ADVANTAGE over a fixed head, inside 30 yards. You got one for me mouthpiece? I don't mind criticism for a post or opinion, but you can shove your arrogant lecturing. Another thing, I have shot mechanicals. Killed a small deer with a 75gr Rocket Miniblaster, and a decent size buckwith a 100gr Wasp Jackhammer SST. In both cases, the exit hole was was big, but the entrance wound lookd like a field point went into the deer. Both double lung shots. Tried two, that was enough.

3. I hate moving parts, but haven't tried expandables

7. No reason to fix what isn't broken. I've never shot expandables but love the results of my fixed blades.

11. Too expensive.

Slick Tricks fly great and with the newer style, low profile, super strong fixed blade broadheads I really don't see the need for the expandables. No moving parts keeps it simple.
