we have big mature bucks from what i have seen most states gun season is as long if not longer but hey stay where you at and out of my honey hole

read an article about it a while back.

It stated about long rifle seasons...during the rut, I believe, therefore less bucks make it to maturity.

There's no doubt IN has great soils and is a big buck state, just poorly managed is what it comes down to, so mentioned the article, but I had always wondered about that myself. It's centered in between buck states so it should.

I think the article came after a recent change to their law there....somethingto hopefully improve the state.

Personally it sounds like Iowa has one of the best management programs for producing big bucks.

yes you can kill over 300 in you hutn every county.

It's a state with conflicting numbers. You can kill over 300 deer in a season but the total harvest numbers are around 150,000. A good 100,000 behind Ohio and we can take about 6 total.

I've seen some monsters from the southern part of the state.

That's just nuts. The thing that makes me scratch my head is the total harvest. If it is a good place to invest some out of state time, it certainly doesn't show it in harvested game.

Deer don't care what state there in. In. has the same thing Oh. and Ill. has, the river. There's your key.

We don't hype our state because we don't want to get like the ones that do. Try finding a hunt in Illinois or Iowafor a reasonable cost, unless you have family in either one that gives you free or cheap access it ain't happening. We also don't have a DNR that manages for trophy potential like some other states, ours manages for overall health of the herd as a whole. If you want booners we have them, but you'd better be prepared to go further than a few yards from your truck to get on one.

i agree kevin. they do a good job managing the herd here. They have corn and bean fields on the fish and wildlife area.
And i have found more clover/sorgum fields then i can count.
i have found area been if for hunting or fishing no one know or the people who know will not tell you about.
Some areas are real nice but try finding a marker or sign to get there. Plus a gps will do you about as much good as a stick for a weapon come deer season.
