just get a bag target for $25 bucks. I think wally-world may even have them for 20 and they're pretty big. LOT less hassle and sounds like it may even save you money in the long run...

guys i have a target i just use the straw as a backstop incase a arrow strays away from the target

heres what you need to do, it sounds like youre shooting at the sides or top or bottom of the bails. no no with straw, its not heavy enough to stop arrows. Get a bunch more if you can and shoot at the ends of the bails so they are longer facing away from you. basically turn them 1/4 turn. I bet this will help. Straw is too light to be shooting at, you need to get yourself some good qualit grassy hay bails or clover bails. Something with some meat and weight. Take it from afarmer who knows.

ya i thought about shooting at the end it looked real strong when i shoot today i am going to shoot one in the end and see how far it goes. might get a few more bails.

just get some old burlap sacks and fill them with old socks t-shirts blankets towels etc and line them up in front of the hay the arrow will not go thru.
