OK i have four straw bails when shooting last week they would not stop my arrow at all.
As one of you recommend i took a ratchet strap and compressed them some.
it helped alittle not much seems it helped alot on the top one not so much on the bottom.

I had a piece of carpet infront of them one of you guys said to put it on the back or it would not help.

Well today i did some shooting i slipped a arrow through the area next to the layers and the plastic case of my target. tearing the vanes up.
So i figure i will let it go through the straw to see if it helped.
It stopped the arrow enough not to go through the straw and keep going.
It did however go in enough it would trash the vanes.

What should i use to stop my arrows from going in deep enough to go past the vanes.
I though about some 2 inch foam insulation the kind you get in 5x5 sheets at lowes.
Would that work
Also would a few more layers of carpet do thejob.

I am paying 3 bucks a piece to have the arrows re done this could get expensive. i trashed two today one on the target hit and one because my dam neighbor had to yell do not miss when i was shooting.

Find money for a good Morrell target. Another idea, shoot at the ends of the bails. You should beable to hit a single bail. The ends are tougher.

do you have some old tshirts or old clothes. stuff them in an old gunny sack. I actually took some old furniture blanketsnd stuffed them in one. works better than any target i've bought so far.

Unless money is a real issue, Go to Gander Mtn. and get one of their foam layered targets for 60 bucks (much less than the block), its a quality target and will last you a few years if you dont shoot it with broadheads I just think by the time you get the bails figured out, the arrows will start shooting through them, and before you know it you'll have $60 in reflecting. I started out using bales and it just wasnt worth the hassle.

Just an opinion, but the one I had wouldn't stop a butter knife in a baby's hand!!! I have one that sits BEHIND another target for a small amount of re-inforcement.

I second the vote for the Morrell Yellow Jacket field point bag. It is an excelent target. Arrow removal is a SNAP, and it can really take a beating.

well i have a target but it is 12x12 i use the straw as a back stop for those few arrows every so often that wonder over to the outside of the target

ratchet them tighter! you can compress bails so tight that its not funny...one of the local clubs use them as targets! probably need 2 ratchets on 1 bail though to keep it even...

i believe the carpet is supposed to hang freely...idea is that it will move and such and soak up the energy...then the bails can be a foot or 2 behind the freely hanging carpet....

id definently get a good, bigger bag for FPs

Get a old feed bag and fill it with old socks, plastic, rugs, carpet, or newspaper and it will hold up for a long time.
