Most are CRAP .... a few are good..... But yes, todays shows are geared to be a 30 minute commercial...

I shot that triple T ranch 12 pt. buck with a Remington super duper high power deer whopper 9000 and I couldn't have asked the Winchester magnum sliver tip boat tail bone breakers to have done a better job. I wasn't sure he was a shooter till I got a good look at him thanks to my Zeiss ultra clear 12 x 68 armor coated binos..... And when I picked him up in my Bushnell Cornfield ready range finder and seen he was only 641 yards away, well heck ..... I knew I had me a dandy, if I did my part. Thank goodness I had on my Scent away shirt and britches, so he couldn't wind me.... He was starting to get a little nervous as it was....

Hey Jim Bob ... pull that polarace big time 1500 cc quad over here and lets load him up.... Whew , Thanks goodness I got that Load-em-up lift assist attachment on there.... this bad boy has to go 500 pounds and I couldnt load a deer without it......

Makes me want to puke.....

for the most part i only watch shows that will teach me something. there's a lot of shows out there that just show kill after kill - i used to like them but they get old. it seems those are the ones that push the most product too. the only show i watch for pure entertainment value is gettin close.

i really wish shows would explain the area they are hunting and why they are hunting there more often. In Pursuit is the first one to really show that in their 'Zooming In' segment. the drury boys used to be great, now they just push product.

You said it MET.

I'm all for foods plots and grooming your own land to harbor healthywhitetails.

but it seems like no a days.
Slap a 12' fence around your property, put up trail cams everywhere and shoot them at the feeder. Hell you got yourself a hunting show. Next they'll be shooting them with laser's from their Basement.

I also wish I had the money to buy the land and heavy equipment to make those food plots on. With what they do to prime the land they buy would take a small fortune....

No wonder they shoot good bucks...

Most shows I think are jokes 5 Min's of hunting another 20 Min's of them doing advertisement for the products they use and 5 Min's for real commercials. Nothing like what the shows where like 15-20 years ago. When the host would just plug a few companies after the shot. It's like watching a NASCAR driver talk anymore which I don't care for anymore. I used to but to much commercialism.

It's there shows so they can do what they want but I don't have to whatch and I don't anymore.

Haha! I agree.

One show I've really been glued on even though there is still some advertising is Heartland Bowhunter. If you don't have Direct TV you can catch some of their episodes on the website.

I enjoy it more then North American Hunter that travels to africa to shoot elephant.

I watch them mainly for entertainment, rarely do I learn anything new. Real Tree Road Trips is my favorite. I like the shows that show the true aspect of hunting. Yes, I want to see somebody get a nice buck, but there are 2 things I look for in a good hunting show.

1. Do they show all aspects of it. Back in Camp, guys goofing around, maybe having a beer or two after the hunt. It makes it seem real that way. I want to see guys goofing around after the hunt and giving each other crap for missed shots.I want to see guys tired in the morning getting up to go to there stands. You know, the stuff we all experience. Not just sitting in a blind and dropping a 160 class buck and thats it. Give me the stuff I wait all year, spending time with friends and family in the woods and talking about hunting.

2. I also want to see excitement when someone kills a 150 class buck. I hate when these guys walk up to a buck they just dropped and casually say, "Now that's a nice deer." Im sitting on my couch thinking, you just nailed my dream buck and all you can say is now thats a nice deer? SHOW SOME EXCITEMENT!! One of my favorite hunting episodes is when Craig Morgan (Country Singer) dropped a huge 14 ptr. in Pike Co. Illinois. When he walked up to it. He let out a scream that could be heard in Chicago. He was DAMN excited. Give me a show that has that enthusiasm and i'll take it.

Sorry for the ramble, but im getting a little tired of just watching guys sit in trees for 23 minutes and watch the, harvest a deer the final 4 minutes. Give me some more of what hunting is more about, not just sitting in a tree the whole time. This is my opinion though, you may all disagree but i'd like to see some more of what hunting is about on TV.

Are they serving the purpose that they were designed to do which is to spread knowledge and inform people about hunting
IMO that's a heckuva assumption. I think we all take different things from them. Some people watch them just to see deer they'll never likely see on their hunting lands. Some to learn....and some (like fastetti...who had a great post) for the entertainment value.

I voice my displeasure in most of them....not by watching and ripping on them.....but by flipping the channel.

A bad hunting show is STILL better than a good bicycle race, though.
