Air is coming down to replace the warm air rising ifI understand it correctly, am I?

100% of the time?
Odds tell me my thermal will rise when the ambient air temp is cooler than my body. There's ALWAYS other factors to digest.....but it's a numbers thing.
Good luck.

Thermals effect an animal’s ability to detect human odor. Thermals are determined by the temperature and stability of air. If the air that is lifted is warmer than the surrounding air, it will be less dense and rise. This scenario occurs typically during morning hours. If the air that is lifted is cooler than the surrounding air, it will be more dense, and fall to the earth. This scenario occurs typically during evening hours. In short, air is attracted to the heat source. At night air is drawn to the earth, as the soil is warmer than the darkened sky. During the morning hours air is drawn to the sun, or heat source. Hunt strategies are difficult to implement based solely upon thermals, however when the opportunity presents itself the results can be advantageous.
Bottom line .... your scent will follow the thermals .... does that answer your question?

As that air moves down, does it push are scent down?
This is the part I wonder about, being we are sitting for 3+ hours, does are scent come back down?
Being Rob is on the move for Elk I understand, but we have very little wind in the mornings.
Can someone tell me as my scent rises an hour later it's not going to get pushed back down? Again I don't know
The downward moving exterior is caused by colder air being displaced at the thermal top.

Anybody want to help me with this one? Air bubble moves up with the warming air, it's replace by cooler air. So does this mean we have air moving up and down in warm thermal?

Yes it does play a roll in my hunts and it's not just temperature that dictates how the thermals will move, the terrain effects it as well. Think of thermals as rivers made of air. Just as the curves or bends in a river affect where the water goes, so to will the terrain affect the air thermals. Thermals aren't just hitting the side of a ridge and plunging right through it, they will be rise with the contour of the ridge or fall with the ridge or jet out and form and eddy at the point of the ridge etc. etc. As others have stated barometric pressure, and relative humidity alsohave an affect on the thermals. Lots of other factors beside temperature dictate thermals. Air is not always being heated or cooed. If the temperature is rising or falling quickly then that will have the greatest impact on the thermals but that is typically only the case in the early morning and late afternoon and the above mentioned fators still play a roll in the movement of the thermals.

Yes.. thermals have played a part in my hunting for the last few years. Since I've learned to use them that is.[&:]
Anybody familiar with a phenom known as the thermal reversal? It's an ever interesting occurance.
