Thermals ..... Do they play a part in your hunt???
My favorite stand is positioned by the prevailing winds AND thermals ....... to me, most of the time I hunt, the movement of the thermals play a HUGE part in my success, as the wind usually isn't blowing hard in the morning ...... of course in a heavy wind, it's mute ...
I would love to hear your thoughts on this as we discuss wind in the other threads .....

They definately play a part in my hunts.
In the mornings, I don't smoke on stand until about 8:00 AM, when the thermals rise. In the evenings, I stop smoking on stand a good half an hour before the thermals start coming back down. [8D]

An area I hunt is in a deep ravine and I cannot hunt it in the afternoon when the thermals come back down the hill. I have been busted a few times on a perfectly calm day in the afternoons becasue the main deer trail is down hill from me. So to answer your ?, yes I take them into consideration.

One of my favorite seens in WKP "The Grind" is Todd stating what a great thermal he had that morning. 5 mins laters he shows a deer winding him, which shows me, we know diddle about thermals.
We have no idea when they help us or when they don't

If I am 98deg in my stand.....and the ambient air temp is 30deg.......there's a "fair" chance my thermal is rising above the level of the deer's noses in my immediate area.
HOW can applying the knowledge of this law NOT help me?
