Default Cover scents for elk hunting

Fellow elk hunters
I bow hunt elk in SW Washington I have tried various cover scents, scent eliminators, and so on. I would like some input on what has worked best for you in your hunting adventures?

I have never used a cover scent while hunting elk. The reson is that I am doing way too much hiking and climbing in the Rockies for it to make any differance in what I am wearing. I do however use cow estrous scent during the rut when calling elk in. I try to put it out a few yards away from me hoping the bull will smell it before he smells me and stop to give a good shot.

I use HS earth scent . Put it in your pack and use it every few hours. I mainly use it where I sweat, hat ,arm pits, croch and boots. and if I find elk urine on the ground I rub it into my pants . Main thing is keep down wind if possible.

When I first started hunting elk about 12 years ago, I tried every scent elimination system, every cover scent etc. on the market and here are my findings..........IF THEY GET DOWNWIND THEY WILL SMELL YOU!!!!!!!!! I now just hunt the wind and take a bath daily......

I couldn' t agree with you more, over the years I' ve tried different things just to expreiment more than anything, it doesn' t matter what you try to mask your scent with, if you rely on it you' ll get burned. Your' re only kidding yourself if you think your going to fool an elks nose. Now you can have an elk second guess his eyes or his ears but never the nose. Always hunt with the wind in your favor, or back out, and hunt him another day. Elknut1.

Westaner-BE CAREFUL! I once heard a noise while stalking elk and noticed a fresh wet spot near a bed so rubbed my boots in it and kept stalking. Got through an aspen stand and ran on my hunting buddy who said he just took a leak back where I was. Needless to say I showered and put my backup boots on. I just shower and use scent free arm and hammer deodorant and do good on getting close. Good hunting.
