Perhaps it shouldn't be a law and seatbelts shouldn't either but then you should not be able to sue or collect government aid due to injuries incurred because you chose not wear either one. No one wants the government breathing down their neck but no one seems to want to take responsibility for the results of thier bad decisions either.
Best wishes to your sister.

I agree 100%....But then again, one shouldn't be able to draw government aid because they're too damn lazy to work either, but they do. Want a raise? Ok, have another kid. Simple as that.

When folks make a personal decision to ride without a helmet, then they might as well make the decision to have that "Do Not Resucitate" paperwork filled out. Otherwise their solo decision can suddenly create a major pain for others[:@]

Wearing a helmet should be your own choice, but with that very choice should come the financial responsibility of whom is going to pay for the full time nurse it takes to keep your feeding tube attached.[

Bouncing your Grey matter off of concrete has very lasting consequences. How many here would never dream of hunting from a tree stand without a safety harness but will jump on a bike and never give a helmet a second thought.
I wish your sister the very best and hope for a full and complete recovery.

That is not really the case any more. Look into the "Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996, Public Law 104-193, better known as the Welfare Reform Bill". But this is wandering into "politics" and that's not really what I come here for LOL

Willie exercised his right to not wear a helmet while riding his hog. Now he is a superstar, at taxpayer expense, on the bean bag toss tournament circuit.

I've never been one to wear a Helmet. I just enjoy the ride and the fresh air. I could tell you a story about once I had a helmet on going down the Freeway and it almost cost me, but think Bumble Bee and I'm sure you'll figure it out.
Lost a good friend in an accident. His Helmet didn't save him. It's not the 1st friend I've lost to a motorcycle crash. It's not so much what we as riders do but what those just ahead of us do/don't do that causes most of the problems.
Reading someone's mind has saved my Arse more than once.

When I first began to ride I was told when you start out you have 2 jars.
1- full of Luck
1- to put experience in
The Trick is to get theexperience jar full before theLuck jarruns out!
