BigJ...bro, don't make me unleash a flyin suplex on ya!!
I'll rip off my patented double decker lower arm bar and take ya down!! LOL...
Need is anawfully strong word in the archery world. We don't NEED 90% of what we use......I'll just leave it at this......All's it's gonna take is for you to get to your hunting spot and something be broken on your bow ONE time, and you'll get a hard case. That's all I'm sayin....And breaking something surely isn't difficult to do...

Never going to happen, I stand a better chance of falling and breaking my bow on the way to the stand than it getting damaged in route. Nope, my bow rides in the cab with me, like all my guns do when I hunt with them. They take precedence over any and all pieces of equipment because withoutthem I'm not hunting.A soft case will protect the bow more than enough for how it's handled and transported if done correctly and it will also hold my arrows and misc. gear as already outlined. There is no need for a hard case. Those cheap hard cases that you see everywhere only give you a false sense ofsecurity. Folks think "hey it's in a hard case...it's protected." Then proceed totoss it into the bed of their truck where it bounces all over hell on your way in and out of your hunting grounds. That's how you find stuff broken when you open the case. It amazes me how some folks get so anal about their sights, the timing of the drop on their rests, theircam timing and so fourth. Then they fine tune there valleys and draw stops to get everything perfect nine weeks to Wednesday......Only tochuck it in the back of their truck like some kinda 2x4 or shovelhaphazardly when they go hunting.

If you travelwith your bow then get a good quality hard case. Something all metal that will pass airline requirements for firearm transport. Then if you need to pack it in the bed of your truck (cab full of hunters) it will at least be protected as much as it possibly can given the situation. Care shouldstill be taken to make sure nothing is packed on the case or that it doesn't slide around. I rarely use my hard cases, gun or bow but I know I have them if need be.
Now, about that double decker lowerarm bar........
didn't your momma tell you not to play with fire??

I went out and bought the SKB rectangle case for airline travel. My Vectrix deserves real protection, and I deserve real peace of mind. You usually get what you pay for.

You need to protect your toys. You can get a good high quality hardcase pretty much anywhere these days for around 30.00, if you think you want some extra protection for it, you can purchase some 1-2 inch foam cushion that you can cut out, and place inside the case.

I could not agree w/ you more on the sense of false security w/ a cheap hard case. You are absolutely, w/out question, 100% right. As are you about folks mishandling their equipment. You take care of yours, and that's a good thing. I hope that it's never a problem for you. I just don't trust them. I take care of my equipment as well, I'm very proud of my gear. I guess it's a personal thing, just like everything else in the world of archery, but I sleep better at night KNOWING my bow is as safe as I can make it.

If I were the type to put my bow in the back of my truck, it would be in a sturdy metal airline quality case no doubt.
This is what I have for both my bows and guns. They work great and are super sturdy, it even has wheels.

For my local Pa hunting I never use a case for my bow. It sits on the back seat of my extra cab Silverado, where it's totally safe and secure. But when it travels by air, I want the best protection for my $1000 bow. That's why I spent the money for my SKB. The contents are "gaurenteed" against breakage. The people handling that case don't give a rats a$$ about what's inside, or what you've spent for your once a year hunting trip! It gets thrown around like every other piece of luggage. Time is of the essence (sp) for those baggage handlers!!It's that simple.

This just floors me![:-]
I can't believe you wouldn't spend the money to protect your invesment.
I'll give you a true life case scenario. I had one of the Plano cheapie bow cases. One day when coming home from a trip I was unloading my truck. Set my bow case down along with a few other items. Wife needed to run to the store. She hollered out I'm going to the store. Didn't think twice about it until she came in the house apologizing profusely. She decided to take the truck and didn't know my stuff was back there. She ran right over the bow case and ruined a $1200 bow setup.
After I went and bought a new bow (that's th only good part of the story) I laid down $179 on an SKB. Even though it hasn't been run over by my truck, it has suffered plenty of abuse and passed with flying colors. I have no doubt that it would fare much better than the Plano case that I had previously. I won't even consider a soft case.
Point being, accidents happen, be prepared.
