Is shooting in my backyard going to get me handcuffed!!

I try and shoot as safely as I can. But I'll be honest....I've had a few get away from me in the past. The one that really scared me is the one that glanced off my 3D buck's back and sailed toward my neighbor's pasture.
In reality....I live on 3 acres. My neighbors on each side are on 24 acres, each. The lady that lives in front of me is on 10 acres....and the folks behind me have 17 acres. There were 5 cows in a 24 acre pasture.....separated by 80 yds of mature hardwoods....and it still spooked me.
I couldn't imagine shooting in a residential type setting. If you're within your rights....have at it. Just remember that they all don't go where we think they should.
Good luck.

I shoot daily off my balcony
I don't know if its illegal or not. I thought my little old lady neighbor would freak out, she asks me to shoot all the damn rabbits thats eating her garden!

needless to say the rabbits are still eating her garden!

Here's the deal. The proper thing to do is, as a lot have suggested, to check with the local authorities. This being said, I'm a firm believer in not going to the problem, but letting the problem (if one exists) come to you.
I say this because I live in a very small town (1 square mile) on a dead end street. I've been shooting my bow down the side of my house (25yrds)for a lot ofyears without any problems with any of the neighbors. I've nevergone to the Town Hall to ask if it was legal. Why take a chanceof them telling me it's not legal when I NEVER had a problem?
I have to mention that I use my better descretion when I do shoot, mostly early in the morning, and later in the evenings.I really shoot pretty much when I want, but those are the most frequent times. My neighbors are cool with it. Basicly I'm saying, If it's not broken, don't fix it!!!

A lot of city ordinances don't just cover firearms. The one I saw covered "projectiles" and specifically mentioned slingshots, airguns, but not bow/arrow.
I think a lot of it is just being prudent, checking with neighbors, etc.
If you call the police, they will likely tell you no and you will have been considered warned.
If you don't and somebody calls to complain, you can always play dumb and probably will just get a warning.
Of course, if you do something stupid with your bow in a city, they can probably find something criminal
to throw at you. [8D]

I live in a suburb near Corona, Ca. our home is in a housing unit of about 40 homes that is located in the County, we have a 8ft block wall around our backyard....and I wanted to have that same question answered about a year ago...I faxed the Riverside County Sherriff and told them where I lived, and told them what I wanted to do, and that was create a 35yrd range in my backyard...on the same letter I faxed to them they faxed me a letter back stating that it was OK to to that...and it was signed with the deputies badge number on the letter; because if for some reason a crusier shows up at my house I have it in writing, and there is never a argument at that point.

I shoot in my backyard also but I put my target in front of my shed. There are no house in line with my target either. Just use common sense and always think about safety first.

It depends on the neighbors. The cops will tell you NO more than likely. I used to just practice when no one else was outside. If they came out, I put everything away. Never had a complaint but did have some lookers a time or two.

I shoot my bow all the time in town. I happen to have 2 neighbors on each side of me that hunt and one bow hunts as well, and the stripper across from meis never home,so its not a big deal. Everyone else does not seem to have a problem with it either. Mostly older folks in our nice quiet trailer park neighborhood.
