Pre-season thoughts, expectations......

Well this thread is just days after I aquired permission to hunt a 57 acre peice of land that is gonna be amazing. I still need to get some stands in there and hung. My oats are starting to come up at the cabin, some plots better than others. I am busy with boats, campers, and summer things, but still plan on getting some pics in a month or so to take a census around the main hunting property and the new piece to see awaits me this year. All in all I am stoked.

I'm sure I'm in the minority here, but I'm not even thinking about next season yet. I've planned, scouted, and did a fair amount of legwork in the field this winter, so I've done the scouting, and I'm READY. I'll even place stands that are semi-permanent soon. However, maybe it's because I'm a teacher, but I'm looking forward to the summer vacation, doing some fishing, camping, shooting, etc. I'm in no hurry to rush to the fall again. It will be here in due time.
Anticipation wise, I just hope to be able to harvest another nice doe with my bow, and hopefully get a nice 2.5yr buck. Who knows, though.

I don't think that this year is going to be very good for me in the whitetail category. Someone bought the 100 acres to the north of my place and they are building a house so I don't know what all the commotion is going to do to the deers' travel habits, etc. If I don't kill a deer this year I don't really care. I am just hoping that they are around and I get to see a few.
I am very hopeful of finally connecting on a good bull elk though. One trip to CO and one to MT, so with any luck at all I should get an opportunity.

I agree Matt, More fun, less work. Its a great theory, but in order to have the kind of fun we want (ie mature buck) we need to do some work.
Its a fine line.
