RE: The Kill
I feel remorse with every animal I hunt and kill. I try my best to make sure I get a clean fast kill. It doesn't always work out that way.I guess when the remorse, (guilt) takes the fun out of it I will stop hunting.

RE: The Kill
have no feelings of regret......just don't "enjoy" the act of killing. I think I'm not in the minority. I could be wrong. Maybe you missed the point or feel diferently I don t think after 30 years of bow hunting I am going rethink somthing that I live for maybe it is because I have killed so much in the buisness that I am in it has made me feel diferently than you I don t know.To me I feel the ppl that posted on here that they had mixed emotions are more well the guys I have more respect as hunters as uposed to saying I like to kill things. |
RE: The Kill
The kill is the climax, every thing else is foreplay. When I was young, it was mostly the climax that mattered, now that I am older, the foreplay is important.
I have had several seasons of foreplay now and will climax in Kansas this fall. Look out kansas, here I come! |
RE: The Kill
Thanks for posting that Chris.
Have a great week. |
RE: The Kill
GMMAT sounds to me like a true hunter and loves it.I never apologize I am proud when I drag one out.I think we both are doing just what we where wired for.And I still think your missing the point I think the ppl that feel mixed feelings have a deeper love for the sport and the animal.

RE: The Kill
It's apart of hunting, trapping, pest contol, putting animals downand butchering. I've killed a lot of things over the years as I imagine a lot of you guys have too. The kill isn't a necessary evil to me... it is justa means to an end.

RE: The Kill
I voted "It's all part of the hunt....I like it"
I didn't vote the "I love it" because it's not what I enjoy the most. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the hunt and the kill, it's just I don't revel in the loss of life to the point that it's my driving force. Good thread....get's you thinking..... |
RE: The Kill
Although i've only shot rabbit , pheasant , tree rats and such with air rifle and shotgun, i have to agree with BigJ . Its all part of the hunt , although i may change opinion after September ( ELK bowhunting ) .. my first ever bowhunt .
|
RE: The Kill
I don't revel in the loss of life to the point that it's my driving force I understand it to be (even a vital) "a" part of what we do as hunters. I'm fine with it. Doesn't mean I "enjoy" it. I accept it. It is what it is. |
RE: The Kill
I think a lot of folks confuse hunting, and shooting an animal, with killing it. The word "harvest" is thrown around so much, it's de-personalized the act of killing an animal.
I believe alot of folks hunt and shoot the animal, without ever really giving a thought about the fact that they've killed that animal. It was walking and breathing, I ran an arrow through it's lungs, now it's dead. I killed it. The actual release of the arrow is an absolute rush, IMO. But the literal KILLING of the animal isn't. Let's not confuse the 2. |

Let's not confuse the 2. Bottom .line .... you KILL the animal, jump up and down, hoot and holler, then grab those nasty horns and take a picture and pass it all over the net and to family ...... prolly drive it around, stopping at peeps houses ....... the kill part feeds our ego ... we have dominated the animal by taking it's life ... and we will make sure everyone knows about it .... |

RE: The Kill
Let me ask......
Does the man who slaughters cattle for a living enjoy the killing? Or....does he recognize it as part of the process that puts meat on the table? |

RE: The Kill
ORIGINAL: GMMAT The act of killing the animal isn't even the d'enouemont. The success of the hunt (in totality) is. Would you be willing to expound on that last statement? I'm not saying you're wrong.... you're right in saying that it's different for all of us. It's difficult for me to understand how you can have a successful hunt without it ending with a kill. I know that any hunt can bean enjoyable experience, but it seems to me thatan actual "hunt" isn't succesful until the quarry is captured or killed. One other thing.... what in the world does "d'enouemont" mean? I tried to look it up, but got no match at all on the web. What is it? A crowning achievement, sort of? |
RE: The Kill
Sorry, LC...
It's a different way of saying that the "kill" (to me) is not the "crescendo"/"climax" of the successful hunt. The success of the hunt is at the end...when I can reflect back on the total experience.....in totality. I happen to agree with you that a truly "successful" hunt ends with an animal being killed. It's not a particularly popular view, to many,.....but I agree with it. quid pro quo ......:Danswer me first .... what aspect is miissing in hunting with a paintball for you???? You seem to think I don't understand an animal HAS to die for me to be a "successful" hunter. I'm fully aware of that. I accept it. I don't lose sleep over it. But for me to say that I "enjoy killing".....wouldn't be truthful. |

RE: The Kill
This has gotten way to deep for me I am not smart enough to put it into words I think if you asked me this ? in my early twenties I would have said I love the kill but now I can t put my feelings into words. If one loves the kill so much as they say why use a bow or even a self bow use the biggest scope and rifle you can get.I think the indians feltsadness when they killed somthing and joy even though they would die without it

RE: The Kill
Have any of you ever held a loved dog (pet) while it was killed? Did you enjoy that kill?
I kill my chickens to eat them. I don't enjoy killing them but I can't eat them unless I kill them. I kill deer to eat them. You can't eat something unless you kill it. Does that mean you have enjoy the killing part? Or isthe killingjust necessary so that you can eat them? If I shoot deer with a paintball they won't die and I can't eat them ;). |
