You better hope you don't get caught killing a domesticated animal, you might not need that crossbow for a few years! I've never been able to figure out why one would you post about killing a dog in a public hunting forum giving all hunters a black eye??? As a dog owner I couldnt see myself hurting the dog. As a matter of fact, I believe you did not get the point of the post. This dog has ruined more than one good turkey hunt, on my private, posted land.
When I mentioned my crossbow I was planning on putting an apple on his head and scaring the crap out of him...not shooting him!

I have tried to catch this dog numerous times but by the time I get my blind unzipped he is long gone. I passed out a dozen flyers to homeowners in the area with his picture. I mentioned abandoned traps, my buddy that is near sighted, and the broken safety on his shotgun. Hopefully the owner will take responsibility.

As I said, I contacted the warden to find out my options. It looks like I need to trap it. I doubt the dog catcher is going to chase this mutt through 900 acres.

The point of the thread was to stress the importance of respecting others property. I put the words pet peeve in there for a reason. Dont you know where your dog(s) are? I know where mine is and its not a couple miles away chasing rabbits in the middle of someones turkey hunt!

Well Jeff, it looks like you are doing the responsible thing. Its just to bad others don't see it this way. The dog is doing what it does, its looks to be a hunting dog. The owners are at fault on this one!

ABSOLUTELY! One look at that dog and you can tell he's healthy, and he isn't staying healthy on the rabbits he's catching. He belongs to someone.


This is a hunting dog, and if I were in your position, I'd find the owners.If that didn't work, I'd take him home with me. I'd give up a turkey or two for a good rabbit dog.

I agree 100%, you can't fault a dog for doing what it is born to do. The owners on the other hand, now that's a different story
