We are Americans (the fathers of technology).
Should we still have the horse and buggy?
I think it's all good, because we are not going to change that!
Roll with the wind - baby!

Technology, IMO, is ok when used properly and the hunter doesn't abuse the technology to gain an illegal, unfair advantage! Once the line is crossed then the technology gets a bad name along with hunting in general.

I think technology has helped us become more successful in every way. But, you still have to be in the right place at the right time. The off season technology has let us enjoy more of the off season. I also think in return that technology has made usthink more about management of the wildlife in our given area.

I think overall woodsmanship is down because of new tech. A GPS is a great thing unless you run out of batteries.

Our society is geared to make things easier and more immediate.
Bingo, i agree, i dont think the tech is a good thing, (even though i use some of it) i would rather not have all this crap, it almost takes the hunting out of hunting, some people say it makes us smarter, i disagree with that because instead of finding a good spot by constantly scouting, you now pick a spot and hang a trail cam, WOW THAT WAS HARD!!! Like i use a rangefinder, but i hunt different places all the time and i am a kid so its hard to tell distance, but i dont have all of the most fanciest gadgets on my bow, i have a 15 dollar stablizer, a 40 doller truglo sight, and a whisker bisciut, not really high tech at todays standards at all, when gun season rolls around, all i have is break action single's not semi's or pumps. i dont have the newest treestand, i have a old hand me down climber. We as hunters should keep hunting the way it should be, not some sport where anyone can take a bow and shoot something, that isnt hunting.

Learn your yardages without one and ditch the range finder then. That will put more of the challenge on you. Its fairly easy to figure out yardages, just takes some practice. Believe me it can be done.

Earlier in the thread I said it wasn't good or bad for the sport. After further thinking I have changed my viewpoint.

Unless you are using a hand made wooden bow and hand made arrows then the technology that has gone into bowhunting has been very good to you .

If all you could use were hand made bows and arrows how many bowhunters do you think there would be? Technology has been very good for our sport.

Making bows and arrows by hand from natural materials and knapping stone points for the arrows, even thatistechnology. Stone Age technology, certainly, but technology nonetheless. There are quite a few folks who are tossing their archery gear made with Space Age technology in the trash and going to Stone Age - or at least Iron Age - technology for their bowhunting gear. Pick up a copy of "Primitive Archer" magazine sometime and peruse the pages.

When you use a bow and arrows that you fashioned yourself with no more cost than your own sweat and effort, and put meat on the ground with it, that's a kick you simply cannot get with a compound and all the gadetry you can buy. At least, that's the way I feel about it.
