I had a friend hunting with me down in Missouri once. He stalk up within 30 yards of about 40 turkey drawed his bow back and the rubber on his peep snapped him on the forehead. Needles to say he couldn't see through his peep, but he shot any way and missed all 40 of them. He has never use the rubber band peep again. Once I was at a 3D shoot and a friend rubber broke. He could see through the peep so he keep shooting. His 30 yard pin was about 6 inch high and 40 was higher. I told him that there would be a big difference. He went home and into his pro shop Shot in over a chronograph than put a new rubber on. He lost 15 fps with the rubber. He got on the phone right away and called me to tell me that I was right about the rubber and how it sucked. Now he doesn't use one any more. I never like them because they always brake at a bad time for me and some time shade the peep hole if the light is just right. To each there own if you like them than use one. I'm just talking about some of the things I have seen happen with them.

You can't go too long on here without a post about someone having trouble with their peep aligning. (this one is a case in point) What's the average "Joe Bowhunter" who purchases a brand new bow that just might not have the best string and cable on it do?? Buy a BRAND NEW quality string and cable set to replace the BRAND NEW one that's on his bow.....that he hasn't even shot yet
????? Come on!You tell that guy/gal to use a tubeless peep and odds are they will have NOTHING but problems with their peep aligning. We get it all the time here.
There is a reason why the Surz-A-Peep is so popular, because it will allow the string to rotate and still have some kind of view through it. I've eventried those in the past and I always go back to the tube.
I'll tell you this though,I'd rather use that style (splits the string in three)than thesplits thestring in twotype. If you set it up just right you can get a clear picture and with a quality string you will always get a clear picture,BUT, if for some reason the string creeps at least you can still get a sight picture, It may be a little fuzzy but it will be there.
For now I'll stay with a tubed peep. If set up correctly a tube style peep will perform flawless and align the peep every time. I change my tube twice a year whether it needs it or not, once before the season and once after it....NO problems.
I don't know what bow your friend was shooting but I also chrono'd my bow with and without the peep, I lost 5fps. Maybe it's possible, I've seen some pretty thick heavy tubes in my day that just might slow down a bow 15fps but my bow only lost 5fps. Perhapsit's because I shoot an ultra fast Mathews Switchback LD?
