Glad I posted this for us!

Rob...Awesome comments!....Again....I will say it! When you make a hole....the animal bleeds!.....its up to you to get it in the zone!.....

I was darn near hugging the button buck I killed (first with traditonal)with flint in 1998.......It was me & him that night...no friends....no cameras......the little button and me.....I looked at that hole that the flint made and could not believe my eyes......As the sun dropped I held the deer and told myself" oh my gosh...its not about the broadhead or bow...these things bleed when you poke ahole in those vitals....even with a stone....it only went 20 yards....I couldn't believe the stone did what it did!!

My point is and still is, if both archers can hit the deer, why is one "harder" than the other.
Rob, buddy.....I have to ask you a question.

If "Bob" works 30 yrs in his field and works his way up through the ranks.....from the mail room....to the executive vice president's corner office...........and "Dan" is the owner of the company's son....and goes from the frat house to the other EVP position........

Which way is "harder"?

You have to be able to see the differnece. As a guitar player.....I kinda see it like learning to play a song.....vs turning on the ipod. They're both still just "songs", right?
Jeff, that is the shooting aspect not the hunting aspect and this falls right back to my original question and reply. See below.

[blockquote]quote:

If you have not killed with sticks and stones you may not truly realize how hard bowhunting really is.[/blockquote]

That was a great post minus that one line quoted above. If a guy can hit his mark, 10 out of 10 at 20 yards regardless of weapon, it's not harder one way or another, it's about getting the animal at that 20 yards, not hitting him.
Not one time did I say that shooting a traditional bow is not harder, that's obvious but it doesn't make the HUNT harder, just the shooting aspect of it.

How is that silly? While yes its not good to practice until you develope bad habits, 50 shots a weeks is less than 10 a day. Everything I've read talks about shooting until its second nature. 10 shots a day is not going to make something second nature. How about blank baling just to work on release? I'd venture to guess most people are going to advocate much more than 50 arrows a week to develope a compitent level of shooting.

BC....I never heard anyone say that.....

But I rarely shoot more than 30 arrows.....and I only shoot a time or two a week. I'm not saying I'm good. I'm just saying I try to keep it "fun" as much as I can.

Interesting.....
Yep he's right GMMAT. Keep it fun like you said in your post, thats a big one right there! Keep it up!

Hunt with one next year and come back and tell us if you still feel the same.

If a trad guy shoots 50 arrows a week, he better be a born natural, or he'll have no prayer at hitting a deer at 20 yds.
Now this is very silly. One thing different about trad is, its about quality of practice not quanity. I learned the hard way. When I first started trad, I shot so much, and ended up getting frustrated and worse and worse. I highly recommend a person never shoot more than 12 arrows at a time. And shoot once and go retrieve your arrows. Its not like compound.
It's exactly like a compound because it's about quality, not quantity for both, some of my best practices were with one single shot. Poor shooting only breeds poor shooting. Both aspect are rewarded with quality practive, not quantity.

Rob...

I really don't get it. Sorry.

Did you answer my question? What's the difference then....in a 50 yd bow kill and a 50 yd ML kill.......if it's just about the hunt?

I'm tryin.....

I have answered your question Jeff, the HUNT isn't harder one way or another, ML or Bow, the shot however is, I've said that with the "traditional"...the hunt is no harder or easier, the yardage is the same it's the shooting that is harder. I don't get that you don't get it.

A message to the group...

I look back on this random post that I dropped ....and ......I'm impressed......We're a modern day culture.......but none of us have lost the respect for what.....once was....hundreds of years ago.

This is good stuff.....

If you're scared to blow it on a monster.( It is normal to feel like this!!) ....take yourself to (doe) ville.....you know your land....and you know where doe(ville) is....go out and play with it this year.....

I did it! I did it!! 7 harvests with stick and flint.....Now I will let you go my friends!....I need to go wax my string on my Hoyt! [8D]remember those indians....remember those indians...show them you can do it.....or do it for yourself.....but only if you want it......if what you do makes you happy....embrace it....and forget about the details in between....your happiness is what counts...and your respect and love for this american herritege...

( By the way....my comment above about being afraid about blowing it on a monster? You can do it with these bows.....if you kill a 160 + with flint...you just may find yourself in a magazine....) Ok ...I'm done...these are just my thoughts! What a sweet topic.

Okay Jeff, maybe you'll understand it this way. If a guy carries a ML with a scope into the woods (limited range) and his buddy carries a rifle with a scope into the woods (longer ranges) and they both shoot their deer at 100 yards. Was one HUNT harder than the other?
