There are obviously many variables that come into play on the chance to kill a big buck. Luck, time, location, goals, habitat, skill,etc.. My best friend has killed one mountable buck in all the 20 yrs he has hunted. I have taken somewhere in the neighborhood of 5 or 6 respectable/mountable bucks. 4 of which are mounted. Not beating my chest here, making a point.We hunt the same woods for the better part of 15 yrs. He is a great hunter, our knowledge of whitetails is about the same, he may have me beat in some areas, the point is, sometimes bucks just seem to walk by me and not him, he has been for more dedicated to killing big bucks than me, but luck has been in my corner. What Im saying is that Ihunt in an area that has produced giants for many years, the talk about this 1500 acre farm has crossed multiple county lines for years, without the access to it, I would have not killed these type of bucks. So, in closing, I think luck, skill, and location, location, location, have everything to do with it.

I think its called dumb luck, and if it motivates them to become a better hunter then good for them. I have a friend that on his first sit ever with a bow shot a P&Y I couldn't of been happier for him. Maybe it would have made me upset if he puffedhis chest out and got all cocky but he was acting like a little kid when he seen the deer laying there jumping around screaming. These days he puts his time in scouting and learning what he can so he can experience that again. I don't have a problem with that.

I happen to agree with the poster on that one, basically that gets done on here all the time.

As a bow hunter for the past 20 or so years, I think that any person who puts there time into the seasons knows that that is just luck. You always want the guy who has hunted for so long to get his but sometimes the rookies get it. Now this is where you can make a new bow hunter for life. The rookies who bags his may just get the fever and thats all it take to get another real hunter in the family. The other rookie, the one who doesn't get bitten by the bug, just rides that buck out for the rest of his days, and probably gives upon hunting deer.

I don't feel disgusted or resentful when a new hunter takes a big buck. Why should I?
It doesn't affect me one way or another.
No one has to "pay dues" to hunt. Or to be successful at it. Who am I to say when someone else is deserving?
