Yooper has an answer close to what I was looking for. My rope is about 33'. I use at a gauge for how high I am. In bare trees I need to be around 30'. I use a loggy (just bought the old style off the internet for my son) for hunting. It's a one piece and for my friends and I, it was the best ever made.

The real question is, what do you do with your bow when you forgot you pull rope? I've ussually used my safety strap since I only secure myself after I get to my hunting height and ready to lock on to the tree. However, a friend of mine pointed out that he grips the bow string in his hand, since he doesn't use the safety harness. I tried that but found the strap easier.

Sorry to finish off the complete hi-jacking of this thread but:

You guys that have this type of stand that NC posted, do you find that you get picked off more than normal? I mean thats an awful big blob hanging off the side of the tree. It's not even like you can use the trunck as cover you're way out there!

I've only been spotted once in it and that's because of the direction the buck came from. I had been grunting so he was on alert looking for the origin of the noise. I try to position it with the tree in between me and the direction the deer normally come from to avoid getting busted. But, yes it could be a concern(as the same with any climber on a bare tree) if I'm not high enough.
