For all you bowhunters that use climbing stands...
Just curious, what do you guys do with your bows as you're climbing the tree? Thanks for your time! Simp

RE: For all you bowhunters that use climbing stands...
Simp,
My bow is usually tied to a hoist/rope which is slipped into one of my cargo pockets. A long length of rope is unrolled prior to beginning the climb. As I get situated I then pull the bow up to the treestand. I believe that is the way most folks do it. |
RE: For all you bowhunters that use climbing stands...
Leave it on the ground.
|
RE: For all you bowhunters that use climbing stands...
Pull it up w/ a rope.
|
RE: For all you bowhunters that use climbing stands...
Lean it against the tree and when I get where I want to be, I pull it up with a rope.
|
RE: For all you bowhunters that use climbing stands...
I think this is the safest way for not only climbers but also ladder stands and hang-ons. I know for me climbing with one hand even on a ladder is not always easy, especially with dew on the steps. Just my opinion.
|
RE: For all you bowhunters that use climbing stands...
Pull it up after is certainly the only safe way to go.
|
RE: For all you bowhunters that use climbing stands...
I keep throwing it up in the tree until it snags, then I climb up to it..
is that wrong?? |

ORIGINAL: Primitive Weapon ORIGINAL: Simp Just curious, what do you guys do with your bows as you're climbing the tree? Thanks for your time! Simp ![]() The hoist rope is the easiest and SAFEST way to pull your Bow/Gun up once your all set up and ready to go! Me its the first thing I pull up and the last thing I lower in. Too many times my bow was on the ground and had deer walking by, so I lower last and hoist it first! Good luck! |

I took no offense to his comment. I've been bowhunting many years and this question was simply a "survey" to see what people actually did to get their bows up to them. I have other motives as to why I want to know.;)

RE: For all you bowhunters that use climbing stands...
My climber has two "hooks" kinda of like bicycle hooks for the garage, that attach on the side so I have both hands to climb and my bow goes with me! The "hooks" are on the right side of the climber (near the black pads).

RE: For all you bowhunters that use climbing stands...
That's pretty innovative!
|
RE: For all you bowhunters that use climbing stands...
It came from the manufacturer with the hooks. It's BY FAR the most comfortable stand I've ever put my butt in. Of course I've painted it so it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb.

RE: For all you bowhunters that use climbing stands...
I have a summit viper with the wrap around bar. I tie one end of a rope to the bar and leave the bow on the ground. Then I hoist up the bow. I do, however, have a bow holder that would allow me to climb with my bow.

RE: For all you bowhunters that use climbing stands...
I have to admit, the biggest buck I saw last year while bow hunting busted me as I was pulling my bow up after climbing the tree. It was just before first shooting light. I ALWAYS survey the surroundings the best I can before I hoist up or lower whatever I'm hunting with. On this occasion, I failed to spot the buck approx 40yds away.
My gut feeling was he was watching me climb trying to figure out what I was or what I was doing and once he saw my bow "floating" thru the air, he got too frazzled and decided to scoot. |

It's called the Gunslinger and it's made by JRH Sport Industries. It's like sitting in the lazy boy at the house!

RE: For all you bowhunters that use climbing stands...
I leave mine on the ground, attached to a retractable hoist. Use the hoist for getting the bow, but also for height checking. Have a couple marks on the rope, and when it stops, I'm at 30'.

I will own two of those stands by next season. It is the first one that I have seen that has the seat in the right place. Faceing the tree so you can hide behind it. Do they have it with cables instead of blades??? |
RE: For all you bowhunters that use climbing stands...
Use a rope like they all said but tie it to the bottom cam so when you lower your bow after hunting your knocks dont get dirt in them. Took me til this year to figure it out, with some help of a buddy. I was like Duh.

RE: For all you bowhunters that use climbing stands...
Leave on ground with rope attached to stand as I go up...

Motown, not trying to steer you away from the above stand at all (because I can ASSURE you I get no commission from ANYONE -- Darnit! ;))... but if you're interested in a comfy climber that allows you to face the tree featuring cables, you may want to check out Summit's 180:

RE: For all you bowhunters that use climbing stands...
Greg- Do you have/use one of those 180s? I like the fact you can face both directions.

RE: For all you bowhunters that use climbing stands...

Pull it up with a rope.
|
RE: For all you bowhunters that use climbing stands...
The first timeI ever sat in it was earlier this year. I sat from 6am to 1pm and never got down.

I've ussually used my safety strap since I only secure myself after I get to my hunting height and ready to lock on to the tree. However, a friend of mine pointed out that he grips the bow string in his hand, since he doesn't use the safety harness. I tried that but found the strap easier. |
RE: For all you bowhunters that use climbing stands...
NC, I don't... I've got the Viper and the Cobra tops, but not this one.

RE: For all you bowhunters that use climbing stands...
Sorry to finish off the complete hi-jacking of this thread but:
You guys that have this type of stand that NC posted, do you find that you get picked off more than normal? I mean thats an awful big blob hanging off the side of the tree. It's not even like you can use the trunck as cover you're way out there! |
