feathers vs vanes
#11
When I shot a lots of target feathers indoor and vanes outdoors. Vane always grouped better outdoor at longer yardages. The wind doesn't work on them like it dose feathers. For hunting vanes don't get wet are get out of shape like feathers. I don't care how much water repellent you use they will get wet. Vanes don't make as much nose rubbing against things and as a rule quieter in fight that feathers. Vanes weight is the same feather are not. When I used them indoor I would check there weight on a grain scale and try to match them up for each arrow. The drop away rest has made it a lot easier to shoot vanes with no contact on the rest. Water dose spray off feather when you shoot them, but they also get heaver and make a big difference if you shoot any distance. I missed a big buck once with wet feathers. Shot under him at 30 yards in a pour down rain. They looked like I was watering the grass going through the air and shot about 6 inches lower. If your bow is not in tune, can't get good arrow clearance are have a bad release feather are the way to go.
