id be letting one fly, and have it mounted, never tell. the DNR will probably take it for testing, cut it up and inspect it, then throw it away. what for.. to tell us a pet got loose? no $hit. trophy on my wall for sure, and oh what a story to tell.

can they climb trees?
edit: also, a lion that big, if was raised in a pen has no idea how to hunt and fend for himself, i wouldnt want a lion running around West Virginia woods, hanging around roads, waiting for easy prey... like lets say, kids at a bus stop? or a hiker.... or well u get it...

Sounds to me like this guys is the same kinda guy who claims he was abducted by aliens. Who in north America sees an AFRICAN LION and doesn't think much of it?!?!?!?
You supposedly chase off a lion and then keep going about your business like normal? C'mon, this guy's off his rocker. How does the fact that he's hunted all his life bear anything on seeing a lion? Did he hunt in Africa?
NUTJOB!!
If I saw it, however, I'd be sitting in the truck waiting for the zookeeper to show up.
