When in doubt.....Dont shooot!
That's good advise! Also button bucks tend to be alone toward the rut and later in the year.

The ears my friend...

A tell tale sign of a button buck is abnormally large ears for the size of his head. He will also show much more black on the back of his ears.

To me this is the easiest way to tell. I can spot a button without binos from many yards away just by looking at the ear size.

I shoot mature does, so the body size difference is a lot. The button buck looks to be about the size of my Lab...

I honestly dont know how anyone can havea problem telling a button buck from a doe, especially if your bowhunting.. Just look at the head. They'll have buttons for antlers, their face isn't as long and narrow and there body size is smaller than a doe.. Now if comparing to a DOE fawn, then all you really have to go by is the Buttons on his head.. They are very easy to see, especially if you use Binocs.

I agree, take out the larger does and you don't have to worry...I stay away from yearlings...Look at the bb in the pic, see how his tail reaches below his rump, his ears look big and his nose is short, it's just plain obvious this is a small deer...
A Boone & Crockett doe usually has a nose that looks like it's a foot long....

I have a buddy that makes a mistake and kills a bb about once a year, problem is, he waits too late, when they look larger, because of the lighting...

He has a saying "A button buck is usually the first to enter a field, and the last to leave....In the back of the truck!!!"
