All of this is true, but it still wouldn't stop the guy who buys it a month before season, sticks it in the closet and doesn't touch it again until season. At least in NY, even if you don't practice, the mandatory bowhunter safety course will wake you up to the fact that "it ain't easy!".

compound bows are SO easy to shoot - they're designed to be extremely easy to tune, extremely easy to shoot, mechanical heads so your arrows don't have to be well tuned and all

if you want to preach ethics, you need to really understand what it is you're even talking about first

that guy was 100% legal in hunting as he saw fit - like it or not - and maybe I don't approve of the way you choose to hunt ? Maybe I don't like your equipment, maybe your accuracy isn't what I consider ethical, maybe theres something about how you hunt that makes me think you shouldn't go into the woods ?


think about it ......... the very fact the modern compound is so easy to use is more of the problem than anything else methinks ...... but few want to admit it

Wow, that is amazing that someone can think they can just buy a bow and hunt the next day. In South Dakota we have to take an Archery Ed course before we can apply for a license.

I disagree with you Big Duane. Nobody is preaching here and this isn't the usual bad shot
ethics police. It is just calling out irresponsible hunters - like people who don't even bother sighting
in their rifles. I happen to get pissed off when someone shows up to hunt with a rifle and they
don't have a clue if it's sighted in.

If you have never bowhunted, and are going out to bowhunt for the first time with a bow, arrows
and broadheads you've never shot, it isn't going to be easy or automatic like you make it sound.
I've let some buddies of mine who've never shot a bow shoot my bow in the backyard and they
miss so badly at 15 yards I don't think they could hit a thing.

Nobody is saying shooting a compound bow is some herculean task requiring years of finely tuned
practice, but not even taking one practice shot? You condone that?

You got to remimber if it wasn't for the compound there wouldn't be as many bowhunters and if that would happen way would your state DNR have a season for us. There out there to make money for conservation and the state if there ant that many bowhunters way would even have a season for a just a few people And it would make as a bigger target for anti hunter to go after. Back when I was young and started bowhunting in the 60s most would try it and quit after they found out they couldn't hit any thing are they would wound a deer and give up bowhunting.

Pretty sad. I watched a guy walk in to the shop yesterday and walk out less than 5 minutes later clutching a traditional bow and a half dozen arrows.
I can't blame the bow monkey for selling it to him but I'm thinking total miss if he shoots. This guy couldn't paunch one on a bet.
