Issue is over a Million hunters, if KY had a million hunters it would be way different. Why guys from states like mine(MI) pay 200.00 bucks to hunt KY
It is impossible to compare PA to any other state in the midwest. Nobody is even close to the number of hunters they have.
OBR works greatin KY, Oh, and IN. I think in MI it would work also. PA I do not think so.

The best way to solve this problem is to get rid of the antler restriction all together.
Ky has a 1 buck only rule and if you want a big buck, you wait and let the rest walk,if not then you take a small one but you are done. They promote shooting does and have liberall bag limits on them.As a result, bucks get big, real big and the government isn't mandating what size buck that I can shoot or what my kids can shoot. That is the way it should be.

That is MY choice.
Having bucks grow to old age and sporting big racks has nothing to do with the health of the heard so from that standpoint,I can not justify when ANY state puts restrictions on what kind of buck a person can shoot.
If putting a 1 buck limit in placewouldn't result in bigger deer(which I doubt)then that is a sad situation but shouldn't result in mandates from the state.IMO
I can understand earn a buck if the population is out of controll. That directly affects the health of the heard, couple that with a 1 buck only rule, then you should have quality deer to shoot after a very short time.

TFOX, PA is a one buck state, always has been, always will be but like Germ said, couple that with over a million hunters banging the first buck they see and wammo, the bucks are decimated. It's not about growing trophy racks, it's about balancing the herd and allowing mature bucks to breed and limiting the immature bucks chances. IF the population is higher with more older bucks, that's likely to happen. The answer will never be to get rid of AR's....PA hunters are not that diciplined. The first year that AR's are gone, the buck harvest would be outrages and lead would fill the air. Witout restrictions, PA would take a huge step backwards.

My mistake,I thought they allowed more than 1 buck per equipment being used.
I just don't feel that antler restrictions affects "health" of the herd.So therefore shouldn't be mandated by the state.
If there is 100 doe and 1 buck in the same area, chances are imo, they all will be bread, regardless of his age.Or atleast he will have fun trying.[8D]
You have to start with the does.
Has there ever been an earn a buck program in place WITHOUT antler restrictions in place?
I have no idea how many hunters Ky has but I know we shoot the heck out of does,as well as small bucks.

Not in P.A. Until a few years ago it was 2 weeks of buck season and 3 days od doe. The doe season fell the first Monday after buck season ended. Then they changed buck and doe seaso n were together for 2 ful weeks. I believe they changed the AR's the first year that happened
