Default Montecs vs. Strikers?

Istarted shooting Montecs last year and was very impressed with how they fly (not much different than my field points). However, as has been discussed here several times there is a question about their sharpness out of the box. Personally I've never been super impressed with their sharpness either.

So I'm wondering about the Strikers. Anyone have any experience with them? I hear they fly just as well as the montecs and are a zillion times sharper.

I got to play with a couple of the striker's earlier this fall when I was looking for new heads. Of the box that we opened up (shop owner and myself) all three heads were crazy sharp. I ended up choosing Slick Tricks, they just shot better for me with my setup. But the strikers are a very nice bh as well.

You got it.
I am shooting Montecs this year. I just really like the one piece design. I did touch them up a little with a diamond stone.

The Strickers are scary sharp, right out of the box but part of that is that the blade is thinner and it is sharpened at a different angle than the Montec, making it "feel" sharper.

I am 12 for 12 with Montecs. I too moved to striker this year. The doe I shot one of the blades snapped in half.

I am now back to Montecs

I still am experiementing with the montecs. But with a 30 degree angle and that thick of a blade, you can't get them that sharp. I can sharpen anything. And I get these pretty sharp. But you will never get them surgical sharp as a thunder head or muzzy. And with a blade that thick, I don't think you will outpenetrate a slick trick.

But they are tough, and if one took care of em, you could shoot probably 15 deer with the same head.

my buddy shot his buck opening day with a montec. i watched him "sight them in" friday night before the hunt out of a poorly tuned bow(just paper tuned) they flew well. i was impressed.

saturday his shot was STEEP quartering away. and he was 15ft high and the buck was maybe 10yds... i woulda passed...he put it in high on the body about 3-4 ribs from the end of the rib cage. busted atleast 2 ribs goin in(angle) and blew straight out the brisket and burring into the dirt. it came out infront of the far shoulder...i couldnt believe that...where it came out the brisket is pretty good bone...and a couple ribs...and all the penetration it got going through the body as far as it did. iwas also impressed to see the head looked like it needed rinsed off and sharpened and would been ready for another. not even a dent. hes also shooting a 370-380gr arrow at about 260fps...so it wasnt super fast or super high KE. i think the cut on contact definently helped...i saw the mid body entrance and exit in the front and said no way that was a pass through...i couldnt believe it..

I have shot both. Could not get the Montecs to fly well, but the strykers flew great. As for sharpness, was not impressed with the Montecs but passed a stryker through a big old doe last year and the head was still sharp.

I shoot Montecbecausemy primary quarry is elk. That head will take a beating. Insertable blades seem really flimsy to me. Also with the Montec diamond stone you can get that head pretty darn sharp.
