Brian, I didn't mean we were dragging the same deer. I didn't even mean the same trail. Crooks are lazy and won't take a chance on themselves gettin shot. They see me with a sidearm, and they would most probably go somewhere else real quick. Just remember, when Kennesaw Georgia passed a law that said all homeowners must own a firearm(there was a waiver for those that didn't want a gun) the crime rate plummeted. Possesion of a firearm WILL reduce your chances of being a victim!
BTW you don't need a nonres CCW in Florida, as long as you have a CCW from your state and they reciprocate with Florida. Just letting you know so you can save a few bucks.

What if the "Hokey Pokey" really is what it's all about?

Years ago a friend of mine had a deer taken during muzzle loader season. His gun wasn't reloaded, the other two guys guns were. They came upon him as he was field dressing it. He was threatened, but allowed to leave the deer with the thieves. He contacted the authorities. Nothing further was ever done. He felt lucky to be able to walk away.

There are several documented cases of this in Wyoming over downed elk. Not sure I'd pull a gun on someone trying to steal my elk but I sure would on someone trying to steal my vehicle or other parts of my personal property. Crime does happen even in the woods, especially in campgrounds in National Forests. A friend of mine had $5000 worth of flyfishing equipment taken from his vehicle while camped at a trail head in Wyoming "wilderness". My uncle actually used his handgun to stop a sexual assualt at a campground in Colorado. The perps were convicted of attempted rape and my uncle recieved a big fat ticket for some sort of weapons violation. Now there's gratitude for you.

lonebowman,
Carrying a Handgun to keep someone from taking a deer away from me is not the main reason I carry a Handgun.
I carry a Handgun to keep someone from trying to rob or kill me!
That is what I had mainly in mind when starting this topic.
It may be a slim chance of it happening while hunting but it is possible and does in this world we live in today.

Same with me....I could care less if someone wanted a deer I had killed....hell, they must need it more that me anyways. I carry for the same reason Sagittarius stated.......Not too worried about things while I'm in the woods, but rather while unloading and loading up my gear at my vehicle. Call me paranoid if you will, but the world has changed too much to be sorry later instead of safe now.

Well first of all it is illegal in Va. during bow, and second I don't own a handgun so it would be hard for me to carry one anyhow unless some one loaned me one. I have never felt a need to own one, but that is just me.

at the time I got it, there was no reciprocrary between Florida and 'Bama. Having the Non-res Florida permit also allows me to carry in 17-18 other states tha honor Florida's permit, but not neccessarrily Alabama's.
