Default Dogs and their effect on Deer

Looking for some opinions on this. As some of you know, I live in a residential area hunt the property directly behind my house. It's an old farm of about 25 acres and is a perfect funnel between bedding and feeding for both morning and night hunts. This past summer, a new family moved in and now every morning, the lady takes her bird dog (which the don't hunt with) for a walk thru the fields. Back and forth they go walking what seems like every inch of the property. So a couple of questions.

Will that much scent keep the deer away or will they become accustomed to it?

I also have amock scrape that I made 4 years ago that has always been hit hard. I haven't touched it yet this year because I am fearful that if I start scenting it up, the dog will also leave his mark. Curious how that will affect the deer?

Until the point of them moving in, I was seeing deer quite regularly. I have video of 7 different bucks. I haven't seen a deer since mid August. Maybe they are just coming thru earlier or later. Just really bummed out. This summer, I found out the property is for sale and will probably end up another housing plan. So I figured i have one good year left to hunt this hard. Now I have to worry about a lady and her dog walking thru.

Pops, it's been my experience that they get used to it. I don't know about the scrape part but as far as walking around I don't think that's a problem. I walk my five dogs everyday, at least twice a day. I've seen a group of bucks 1/2 hour later in the same spot we just trampled through.Good luck.

it depends on the area surounding that property. if the deer can get everything they somewhere else that doesnt see much human impact,2/3 will just move unfortunately. Its been my experiance with horseback riders on a couple properties I hunt. However, if most properties have such things happening the deer just get used to it. Sounds like you are in a developing area so perhaps you are OK.

Thanks guys. I guess I'll just have to wait and see what happens. The season start Saturday but I won't get out until next week.

I havemy deerdog penon my family'sland and the deer walk within 75 yards of the pen. I have rode out there and a doe and yearling were feeding around the pen and the dogs had winded them and could see them. They were goign crazy, barking and trying to jump the fence; didn't bother the deer at all. We have two stands across the creek that intersects the parcels that are maybe 100 & 200 yards from the dogpen. I have killed bucks at both of them and they don't even acknowledge the dogs barking while they are so close to them. Short answer- no it won't bother them.

Stuff happens. My advise is to always be looking for new places to hunt. Don't be bummed instead change your focus. You will never be disappointed if illumination is your passion.

In my experiance on the land I hunt. If someones dog starts running the property you might as well go else where cause the deer wont put up with a dog running loose. Coyotes dont bother them unless they are injured or are a easy meal, but a wild dog will chase deer regardless if there injured or not. All I can say in my case is that Iinvest way too much time, effortand money on my land and deer to just sit by and let someones dog ruin it for the majority of a season. In your case its a bit different since someone is walking the dog, if the dog was just runing loose and it was your land I could tell you a very quick solution to the problem.

I've got a trail cam set up at the moment not 30 yards from my dogs' kennel. It's been a learning process for me, but the deer are there, despite the fact that my younger one has peed on every tree within 200 yards of the house. I agree in that I think they get used to it. - It certainly isn't helping anything, but is just a part of life that we hunters have to get used to and adjust to. Good luck and keep us posted.

Man that sucks Pops. I have a tree line that borders a field maybe 100 yards wide that I hunted 3 years ago and got two does within the first 5 days hunting it. Last year a lady mooved in on the other side of the field with her dog and it would bark constantly if it saw anything be it a person, deer, squirel, whatever. Last year I hunted that thing all season and saw only one deer. This spring the dog got hit by a car and killed The result = on the first evening hunting it this year I saw three deer and got a nice 1 1/2 year old doe.
And before you all start asking.... NO it was not me who hit the dog.[8D] The lady down the road did.
