Default Eventfull day hunting!

I went out yesterday to my regular spot for elk and moose, see the odd whitey buck and when i do its usually a monster but they are like ghosts in there. But anyways, i was driving in to my spot this morning and as im driving along i see a cow elk standing right on the side of the road so i pull up beside her and i grab for my camera, cause i cant hunt on the land but just i turn back around to look at the cow i catch something out of the corner of my eye on the other side of the road. It was a massive 5x5 bull elk standing not 10yds from my truck, i go to take a picture but he hops the fence and kinda trots in across the road right in front of me then all of a sudden i was in a stampede of elk, elk in front and behind the truck, must have been about 60 elk, i almost crapped my pants right there. So now they are all on the other side of the road lookin at me so i go to take a pic and it didnt work look at the screen "Change batteries" NOOOO picture of a life time and my camera dies. So they took off across the field and just as i start going again look behind and its the friendly Conservation Officer coming, i figured he had been watching that herd just waitin for some dumb hunters to try and take one.

So i get to my hunting grounds and as im pullin in i look in the field of alfalfa and at the other end there was a herd of 30 elk, so i pull the truck down a lil hill and behind some trees and quickly gear up. Im geared up and im walking up this lil, i hear a lil grunt, i look up and HOLY CRAP a Bull moose standing 30yds from me staring me down, of course my bull tag i have isnt good in the certain area i was hunting. So i decided to see if he was in rut. I put my bow above my head and started swaying back and forth and he started too, as soon as he did it i yelled at him cause i didnt want to get him too wound up and charge me so he ran off but the silly bugger ran right towards the herd of elk and spooked them So i go back down to the truck and finishing driving in to where i usually park. I get out and look up in this field about and about 500yds away there is four whiteys all doe standing in the field feeding. So i grab my bow and start moving towards them, the wind is right i got lots of cover i got to within 80yds but they were on the other side of the field so there was no way of me gettin to them so i just decided to pass on them and not spook them. So i end up to where i wanted to go finally which is where i had shot my cow elk last year but by this time the wind was blowing soo hard, but im up ontop of this ridge and i notice something bedded down in the field where the deer were. I couldnt make out what exactally it was but i decided to head there and check it out. Turns out it was the 4 whiteys i had seen earlier, but they were about 80yds in and i couldnt move any closer once again so i gave them a few doe bleats and grunts and in an hour they had gotten to within 60yds and then they ran away.

So it was an eventfull day, lots of game, no animal was stuck, but its always good to see lots of game, and just to get out of town and into the wilderness for a day.

Field the deer were in

The trees to right is where i always see a big double drop tine buck every year but he has out smarted me.......so far

This area is a deer Highway if i need to fill a tag near the end of the season i just sit here and 9 times out of 10 i will see one.

They were gettin close

A scene im sure all of us are way to familiar with

A calf and behind it is its mother and it has a wounded right leg and i noticed it hoping around earlier in the day but it decided to bed down, told the rancher about it and he went out to get it right away.

Jeez.. almost sound like you were hunting at Yellowstone or Glacier where the animals are almost tame. I would sell half my soul to see that much game in one day.[8D]

I wouldn't have to see a deer the whole season with that kind of view from my stand. Awesome pics! Sounds like a good day in the stand.
