My take is, if you're that afraid to be in the woods..you shouldn't be there with any weapon!

I 'll be honest that when I hunt in northern WI I carry a service side arm. I have had two encouters that made me feel a little uneasy about being in the woods alone without one. One was with a bear and the other was with yotes.

Wyoming is allowing you to carry a gun (non specific) while bow hunting this year for the first time. I don't like it, but that's another matter.
I won't carry one. But I have always had a wrist rocket in my fanny pack. I've chased off a bear once, but mostly bovines.
I do keep a gun in truck/camper cause it's also uplans bird this time of year (grouse!).
I believe the potential for trouble by allowing guns while bow hunting far out weighs any trouble from preditors.

In La, you can only carry a 22 with ratshot while bowhunting. This year I bought a Buckmark
and carry it with me for any project out in the woods. My family protection is a Beretta Cougar in 40,
but I never take that in the woods. Here's a pic of the Beretta (now I think sold as a Stoeger for less $$$):
The Buckmark is a fun gun to shoot and pretty accurate for a pistol. I'm debating whether
to take it with me bowhunting (with ratshot), but it's just more stuff to have to get up in
the stand and keep track of so I probably won't.
I don't think a CC permit overrides the game laws, but I'm not sure about that.

How many use a bulletproof vest and full riot gear when then are in a city? Look at the odds folks! It would be more sensible to do that, other than a few instances, some of which have been noted in this thread, than pack a sidearm while bowhunting where most people bowhunt.

Only when bowhunting hogs at night, then I carry my Dan Wesson .357 loaded hot. Things can get hairy chasing hogs in the brush at night. Other than that I see no reason in our part of the world, it's just more junk too keep up with.
