Is his head off or does it just look like that to me?

If rigor had not set in yet, then that is a fresh kill... 2-3 hours ago. It doesnt look like a lot of blood on the meat, so I'm guessing that rigor has past.
And I'm guessing that a car hit him, and someone dragged him off of the road.
*BTW, thats amazing that the deer made it 30 yards... that deer musta had a shot of adrenalin to not die on impact!

Chris, no one dragged him. It's hard to explain but I will try. Picture this,Rt 9 is the road you would turn from to enter the compound, just inside the compound you can turn right or go straight. This right turn is only 35-40 feet from Rt9. Along the road (right turn rd) is a fence running about 200 yrds to another crossroad. Now between this fence and Rt9 is only about like I said 35-40 feet as they run parallel to each other with a woodline in there. The deer was between the fence and rt 9 about 30 yrds from the road you would turn on tofrom Rt9. Hope that makes sence.
