I've decided for myself to pass on anything less than 8pts. this year.
That's great for you.

IMHO the thing that makes getting a nice size rack so great is that it shows the hunter has reached a certain level of skill, the bigger a fish or deer is the less luck played into it and the more animal smarts had its part in such longevity
If you say consistently gets bigger deer unless it fits into the scenario I mentioned before.

What you CHOOSE to pass up gets passed on to the next hunter or next generation.
Tell that to all the deer I passed thet end up in the grill work of someones car. Seriously I would rather pass on knowledge of the woods and how to hunt to the next generation. Then how to grow bucks. I'll be taking my neighsbor kid out alot this year, pass it on.

I want to hunt where these big bucks are "plentiful." Please tell me where it is. If I see one big buck per year I am happy. It keeps me motivated. But I will tell you that I am doing my part to try to make my property one of these "plentiful" areas. Last year I saw 2 big bucks. The first one to the left of my elk and the first one to the right of my elk. QDM works.

Want to really help this sport take a kid hunting and stop being selfish. We are loosing numbers every year, it won't be the lack of deer or big deer that brings this lifestyle down it will be a lack of interest.

Disclaimer: once again this is a general statement and not directed at anyone. I know how sensitive some people are on here.

Don't take this the wrong way......but does that mean they weren't there?

There are ZERO deer of that caliber in my woods. You'd still be hunting for one of those if you lived here.

Location........................

I can't wait to take my 5 year old son (sitting on the couch) on his first hunt! I hope he enjoys it as much as I do!

Wrong feeling. If two guys shot a 1.5 year old and one guy worked all year on food plots and feeding them artificial supplements to grow their racks and the other did nothing but get up and shoot a deer, obviously one worked harder than the other. I made this example because you said it was not working for it. That scenerio in your quote below can and is major work most of the time.
Feeding them artficial supplements to grow their racks.,hmmmm, so the deer isn't that much smarter just juiced up like Barry Bonds?I'm a hunter not a bio chem major or a farmer.
