How to wash Wool Jackets
Hey guys i'm getting ready to wash all my hunting gear for the upcoming season but i wasnt quite sure how to wash a wool jacket my grandpa gave me last year. Do i wash it in cold water in the washing machine or maybe hand wash it? I just want to make sure i dont ruin it since it was used by my grandpa 30 to 40 years ago when he was in the marines.
Thanks

RE: How to wash Wool Jackets
I have washed mine several times in cold water and gentle cycle, and then air dry/hang to dry. I have had no issues with shrinking. I do not dry in a dryer, as I do have some concern for the wool being damaged by the heat.

RE: How to wash Wool Jackets
Throw some Ivory Snow or woolite in a 1/4 -1/2 filled (lukewarm) bathtub, drop in coat or pants etc. Let soak for at least 10 minutes, Stomp around on them with barefeet for at least 5 minutes. Drain water, refill , stomp around on them again to rinse and then hang to dry. I got old wool stuff that is only used for hunting and never gets cleaned except for this ritual once every few years. Hang it outon the cabin porch for a day prior to hunting and after hunting and its good for another few years.
Take care.
