To shoot a fawn?

As I said before, Worst logic I have ever herd. We shouldn't shoot a fawn because it might give birth to a buck the next year. You say wait till after it gives birth. Hate to break it to you buddy, but that doe is more likely to have fawns the next year than the fawn and more of them. Once again not shooting them them because they might be a buck, because it bothers you, or because you just don't want tois fine. Your logic is just plain back wards.

No, I didn't say that I am talking about fawns.

So, by this logic no one should ever harvest a doe unless there is a severe population control issue because she may give birth to a future monster buck?

Even if the fawn is female she has potential to give birth to other large bucks, so why not let her produce more offspring i.e. shoot her right after this has occured? Now, if they have overpopulated an area then by all means go for it. However, natural selection has been working for a long time without your help.
Plus, young fawns have enough pressure from other preadators besides humans.

I have always passed up fawns for some reason. They are fun to watch walking around under the tree stand. Don't get me wrong, if the end of the season is closing in with no meat, thats a different story. Plus this way they are a little bigger. I have never had to take any fawns so far. Where I (am able) hunt is low deer population and sometimes it is tempting when onepasses bye....[&:]

You're not allowed to take fawns or spotted fawns? If it is just fawns in general, I don't believe it. Too many gun hunters would end up shooting what they thought were does at 200 yards. They would walk up to their fawn, see their mistake, and leave it lay. Is There anyone else from Indiana that can clarify his statement?

Maybe you should read your regulations again. What do you think all of those bonus antlerless tags are for?

I've done both and to be honest, I didn't feel right about shooting mom.
One time I had one of the fawns stand there and stare at me as I was getting ready to gut the doe. I felt terrible and that memory still haunts me.
To this day, I prefer to fill antlerless tags with a fawn if given a choice.
Much better eating although less meat. That's alright too if you and your family have multiple tags.
I ain't ashamed to post a pic either.
Here is where one of last year's antlerless tags went.

Personally I wouldn't shoot a doe with a fawn, or a fawn alone... spotted or not, but that's just me. Of course I don't have the CWD or severe overpopulation problems, if I had to deal with that I might change my point of view.

I also hunt in the CWD area in WI. I have heard many hunters telling stories about how a huge buck walked by and they couldn't shoot, because they didn't have a buck tag. Personally I have never had that happen, you want to know why? Because, I am not ashamed to shoot the first doe or fawn that gives me a good shot. I have shot the mom when she had fawns with her (they will be fine by themselves). I haveshot fawns (buck and doe), and I have shot mom andone fawn at the same time. I don't target nubs, and would never knowingly shoot one if I didn't need to earn my buck tag.But you can bet your ass I'm not going to pass him up opening day. I'm in the sametree as FRALEY, I'm going into this season without a buck tag, so the first non antlered deer to give me a good shot is going down.
