I've done both and to be honest, I didn't feel right about shooting mom.

One time I had one of the fawns stand there and stare at me as I was getting ready to gut the doe. I felt terrible and that memory still haunts me.

To this day, I prefer to fill antlerless tags with a fawn if given a choice.

Much better eating although less meat. That's alright too if you and your family have multiple tags.
