If any type of bait food or salt/mineral blocks are ilegall in Illinois then why does every Rual King, Walmart, and local feed store sell Apple flavored deer block, Wild game mineral lick, or Deer Cane?

It may be illegal to bait them but it probably isn't illegal to feed them prior to the season.

In IL it is ILLEGAL to put any type of attractant out all year long. They are trying to prevent CWD, and believe that it is spread by contact. So they do not want to concentrate the deer at bait sites.

As far as places selling it, that is another matter. I guess that itis not illegal to sell it. They don't know what or where you are using it for.

I never understood that either Tbyrnzy....kind of odd for a state that has a year round ban on baiting.

Same thing in PA! The corn flies off the shelf during the season at our local Walmart and Gander Mtn.

There is no way to prevent cwd, cwd is a natural social contact disease that has been around for many many years. In the last Deer & Deer Hunting issue, theres a very large article on CWD In Wi. The DNR OPENLY admits that their efforts to erradicate the disease has fallen through the cracks. They spent more than 3 Million dollars of tax payers money on a losing battle. They banned baiting in may areas and reduced the baiting limit in the rest of the areas down to 2 gallons. Baiting is a very good management tool and it should be up the to the hunters to decide whether or not they want to bait or not.

How so? Not trying to be a smart a$$, just never heard of bait as a management tool.

I can see it as a "management tool", it certainly would allow folks to get shots at lots of antlerless animals. Shooting more Does is always a good deal!
