RE: Someone I know......

I don't have a problem with people killing foxes or any other animal.....as long as they do it, legally.

I'm taking a state regs handbook over there and we're going to ALL look at it.

I guess I just don't understand why someone would want to mount and remember something they killed illegally.
ME EITHER!

The more I think about this the more pissed I get. No one has even mentioned it,yet......and I hadn't thought of it until Lisa mentioned it to me last night. It was ALSO shot on a SUNDAY.....which is ILLEGAL here in NC.

It just gets worse.[:@]

I suggest you not say anything more to him about it. I'm with you in that I would not want to be the guy to turn him in. But coming down on him is just going to convince him that the next time he should just keep quiet.

Maybe if he keeps running his mouth about it, he'll brag to someone who will turn him in.

I'm a guy who supports abiding by the game laws even if you don't agree with 'em. That makes it fair for all of us.

It my state and county it is legal to take fox any day of the year, all year, except Sunday. This may be a very good opportunity to really educate this man's son so I would not be showing a very angry attitude when talking to them. As much as this is very bad if it can be turned into a learning experience then maybe some good can come out of it. Also, as part of educating them you may want top explain that the taxi will turn them because he is required to by law or he could be liable for fines and jail also. Show how them how many ways that this is a bad thing to do.

That is too bad. If I were him, I think I would get rid of it as fast as I could. For the condition the hide will be in, it isn't worth risking anything. I think you handled it correctly with your friendship and all.

I'll tell you this, if I get a call like that, I call the warden. I have too much to loose with the taxidermy business and all. NC is tough about foxes!!! If he gets caught, let him know it's gonna cost him in the 4 figure range. We are only allowed to trap fox in like 5 counties in the entire state, NC likes their foxes. I hate the guy put you in this position.

And I wouldn't respect your position if you DIDN'T act that way.

They're gonna get an earful (at least DAD is). Son needs to be taught.

I'm sure the Father knows how the son screwed up big time! If it were me I would let the Father have the talk with his son. Sure your are mad but this is more of a Father/Son situation than anything! I think the kid would get more out of it hearing how he screwed up coming from his Dad! JMO!

You guys sound like The good Rev Al Sharpton and it was Don Imus that did the dirty deed. You all need to take a deep breath and calm your selves.

You have not mentioned how old the kid is ,and yes it does matter.I know times have changed but when I was a kid nothing was safe from me and my daisy. One time I got caught shooting a song bird and that was the end of my daisy & my sitting for a long time.

If you want to explain to the father that you don't approve go ahead, but don't be surprised if he thinks that foxes are worth less predators that should be shot on sight. Most farmers do.
When fur prices were high there were many trappers ,today there are few.And with this predator numbers have surged and the results are declining small game numbers. Some of us like grouse better than foxes.

If you can find a good point about having foxes around maybe you will be able to convince him not to shoot them in the future.
A goose hatched five gosling's on my pond last week as of last night they were all killed. I am not a fan of avian predators either!

As for the law breaking part of it I am sure none of you speed on your way to work?
Go ahead stone away!!!!!!!!!;)

Anti's love to hear stories of people poaching! It makes their "jobs" a lot easier. They jump all over these things, and want all hunting seasons outlawed. It strengthens their arguments (that to us make no sence, but to people on the edge, may mean going one way or the other. This is why any screw up, yes poaching is screwing up, has a bigger impact on our hunting rights, then does speeding on the way to work. after all, never really heard of an anti-driver.

Drive safe, and Good Hunting!
Kyle
