Late season deer hunting
Hi guys,
Just wondering WHAT time of day you have the best late season luck. I am in East Central Wisconsin, and we have had a break in the COLD weather. I have some new land to hunt, and some public as well. There is little food left on the private land, and the public WAS heavily hunted (but late season it isn't hunted much) but has good food supply. I don't have a LOT of time to scout these new locations, and want to optimize my time in the woods. So...for those in the Northern Mid-West (Minn, Mich, maybe Ill) do you see more activity during the late season in the mornings, or afternoons?

RE: Late season deer hunting
Depends on many factors. I usually prefer afternoon, but like Cougarmag, I saw 24 from my stand btw. 7:30 and 9:30 this morning.
I can say that 8 were under my stand and they bedded untill about 11:45 and then they got up again to move into woods closest to the cut bean field. They were really moving today for some reason though. SE MI Sunny 29-38 degrees and CRUNCHY loud snow.
I actually think that loud snow helped me. I made no attempt at stealth on the way in this AM and I did't get my bow into the tree before they started coming out of the woodwork. They (the deer)were LOUD in the snow too, so I think they thought I was another deer???

RE: Late season deer hunting
Like already stated here in Ontario, Canada late afternoon appears to be the best bet. In the past two weeks I have seen approx 10 deer all between 3pm and dusk we dont have the largest deer population and in my experience 10 is alot for here. And as has already been echoed above it is getting to *@#$(* cold to get out in the morning...call me lazy but I much prefer the afternoon sun than the morning dawn.
