Default Attention MO boys!!!

I need some help from you Missouri folks. I have just recently found out that Missouri has a growing hog problem. I have never hunted for pigs in my life but have always thought it would be a blast. Do you guys have any info on hog hunting in MO that you think could help me out. Is there a pretty high pop. of hogs in MO? Or wouldI be wasting my time?Have any of youguys hog hunted yourown state? Is there any public hunting lands to pursue hogs? Any info would be appreciated. I was just wondering if this would be worth my time.
Thanks

I understood there to be hogs near Stockton lake which is approx 45 minutes north of Springfield. Seeing as how you're from Jacksonville, IL, that would take near 5 hours to get there.

You may have luck checking out that area.

good luck

I know there is a hog problem by Fort Leonard Wood, which is past Rolla about 25 miles.I believe there are certain parts of the base that you can hunt. Dont quote me on that but its what ive heard. There are even ranches that allow hog hunting in that area, b/c there is so many. Ive never hunted these places but know people that have, and they saw a lot of hogs.

Just depends on where you are. There are pockets that have lots, but most of the state is devoid of them. The conservation department wants them dead to keep them from getting out of control.

Come back in 5 or 10 years and I think there will be quite a few more. Just like the armadillos that are moving north...I see them almost everytime I'm out scouting in the woods.

I think they are pretty localized to where they escaped or were turned loose right now. A good population here and there, not statewide yet, but give them time. The Conservation Dept. is doing their best to fight them. There is no closed season, no limit, and no weapons restrictions. Shoot every one you see with whatever weapon you have in your hands. I don't think you even need a Lisence but don't quote me on that. Check it out first.

I own some timber around Branson Mo. My Brother lives in Kimberling City. I have been going down around that area for 17-18 yrs. I have never seen any in those areas (not that there couldn't be) I just haven't heard or seen. Would be kind of cool to hunt them though!

I think you're getting the feel of how it actually is from the above answers... there may be a few somewhere, but not very many and they're highly localized and not spread out. I've checked into hunting them around Lake Wapappello (about an hour from me), but it just didn't seem like it'd be worth my time... more like hunting a needle in a haystack kind of thing.

I live in southern Missouri, down around the Arkansas State Line. There is a 6,000 + acre piece of state forest called White Ranch that has somewhat of a hog population. I know some of the neighboring landowners that have killed quite a few. I am gonna try to find some this spring. No limit and no closed season. I have a buddy that works for the Dept. of Conservation and he says he can put me on 'em.

Also there is some state forest in Oregon County called The Irish Wilderness that has some, but I don't know as much about it.
