Howard Hill used to shoot out to 200 yards with his longbow. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think he killed an elk at 150 yds give or take a few.

I must be dumb, but why are the recurve records farther than a compound?

68 yards on a seed goat.

107 yards on a yote.I shot this shot on a bet I shoot many times over 70 yards on yotes.

I shoot a mathews 94# 30in draw 500+gr arrow.Till I started using the heavy draw I could not hit any thing out to 60 yards. That heavy arrow makes a big diff. I shoot 100 yards at papper a lot. So a 70 yard shot seems close.

Now my deer have never been shot over 30 yards. My elk have allways been 40 or less.Only 1 was 40 the rest where 25 or less. Bears are allways very close.Seed goats are normly around 50.I do not use a blind or the shots would be way closer on goats.

That's amazing. The guy at my pro shop told me he used to shoot a 147 # recurve.

I read a story about Fred Bear.
I read it a long time ago, so I'll tell it as best my memory serves me.

Fred was hunting Tigers. ( India, I believe)

The natives put on a drive to try to flush out the tiger for him. He saw the tiger but it was about 85 yards away and not going to come any closer.

Fred decided to try to shoot an arrow slightly over the tiger. He was hoping that the arrow's impact on the brush, on the other side of the tiger, would scare the tiger and cause it to come his way.

He picked out his worst arrow, drawed back his recurve and let it fly.

Supposedly, the tiger was a little farther than Fred realized, because he hit the tiger. He had witnesses that were there with him. It was measured at 85 yards.

That is what I recall of the story I read, a long, long time ago.

If memory serves me but don't hold me to this.
Howard Hill-Long Bow Eighty something pounds, 174 yards-4th shot, Bull Elk. I know he did some awesome things with a bow. I saw him on TV on an old show called you ask for it-on top of a station wagon going 60 miles per hour-seated, pull arrow out of a back quiver-load & shoot BULLSEYES on targets as they drove by them-I think 6 targets-don't know how far apart but it was awesome.
Harry Drake shot a arrow out of a recurve (lying down) & strapped to his foot over a mile. Don't know the poundage. Drake was always shooting for distance-they say some of the bows he built for this only made one shot.
