I would only take that shot if I had a 3 inch mechanical broadhead and a 300 grain carbon arrow at 310 fps. [8D]

Seriously though - why not just wait for a broadside or slightly quartering shot? I don't by it when people say "That's the only shot I had". BS. That's the only shot you had because you weren't willing to wait 20 more seconds for the deer to turn broadside. They usually will turn if you wait long enough. If they don't, don't shoot. Why is it so complicated?

The sad part is this guy thinks that's a good shot to take at a deer now. I don't see anything wrong with educating him as long as it's done respectfully in a positive tone.

Not to sure i would takeTHAT shot with a head that big and only 64 pounds of KE.[&:]

I would never take this shot intentionally, but thingsDO happen where deer are concerned.
I did hit, and recover a 10pt 3 years ago thatlooked up atme at the same time I released. He tried to lunge away and the arrow hit a litle more forward than this one andatA LITTLE moreangle. I was SICK, I almost threw up. I figured I was in for an all day tracking job i I would recover him at all, but I thought I heard him crash while still in my stand. Long story short , I recovered him 80 yards away down hill. The broadhead took the liver and punctured the diaphram. I'm not sure about a lung.
The sad part is...when I told some of the guys I work with, what happened,MOST of them said it's worth taking a bad shot for a rack. NONE OF THEM BOWHUNT...they are rifle hunters.

Ray.....a few posts back you mentioned not posting a photo of a small buck. I hope you reconsider. I'd be one of the firsts to congratulate you on ANY deer harvested with your bow. Congrats if I missed it....and NEVER hold back on us!! We love to see them all.

The guy who posted this on the MAthews board was aiming EXACTLY for the spot he hit (he claims). No jumping string or turning on the shot. He says he was aiming for the spot he hit.

I posted a thread to ask the moderators what they thought of the shot. One of them .....a guy named Vince who often boasts of 55+ yd shots on deer.....replied that it's an ethical shot.....and deleted my thread. No biggie.....bu t he then went on this guy's thread and posted that it's ethical and a good shot for bowhunters to take. I responded in the thread with this:

There's not a one of us who can't make that shot......the difference in some of us is whether or not we'd attempt it. I took 5 whitetails with my bow, this season.....and I'd never attempt that shot.

You're condoning a shot where your PREFERRED entrance wound is in the ham of your quarry. I am EXTREMELY surprised to see a moderator of the Mathews bowhuntingboard not only condone this shot....but promote it.

I see MANY "I shot a deer and I can't find him" threads in this board's future. These animals deserve better than this. My "other" post on this same subject was to feel the pulse of the moderators. I now know the inmates are running the assylum.

I hit a doe this year, in the same spot, arrow hit a branch and hit well back from where I had aimed ( did not see branch at all) I was sick about it, but backed out and gave her 6 hours. I went back and found her 60 yds. away. Obviously hit guts, liver, and one lung and exited out of the armpit hitting the front leg on exit. I would never , ever take the shot on purpose, I was so happy and relievedto find her.
