WHAT IS THE BEST METHOD FOR HUNTING BLACKTAIL AND WHITETAIL DEER, IN THIS STATE {OREGON}YOU CAN NOT BAIT OR USE DOGS????????

I'm not sure about blacktail or Oregon for that matter but if a blacktail is anything like a whitetail then hunting them in a treestand is a real good method.

RDHunter pretty much summed up what I would say.

You don't have to bait or use dogs to kill a deer. You have to do a lot of scouting, i.e. learning about the deer you are hunting. Where they bed, where they feed, where they travel, etc. If you spend your time doing that, then you have no need for bait or dogs. You can't just climb a tree and expect to even see, let alone get a chance at a deer. The best time to scout a new area, IMO, is in the winter a few days after a good snow.You will be able to see easily where the deer travel and bed and you can follow their tracks to determine a lot of their patterns. Granted they will be a little different in the fall, but at least it gives you a place to start. Good luck.

deer need 3 things--food,security and sex.that's all they do--eat,bed and make little deer.it don't matter if it's NW blacktails or eastern whitetails.find those areas,do your scouting,and hang a stand or build a blind.

And just think guys right 200 pages in a book on how to kill a whitetail, and you just sum up the whole deal in a couple sentences.

Try to set up near a crossing. Or scout and see where they are feeding in the afternoon set up on a trail leading to feeding area. You could use a ground blind but you better hide that thing good. Or of course you could use a tree stand. I dont know what Oregon is like so.....There ya go. I have never used dogs to kill deer and I dont like the idea of it. I like to be sneaky. And bait I just dont see why you would want to. It takes the fun out it.

Go to the woods Grasshopper and observe. Hunt the wind. Patiences young one.... patiences.OH... and ... Hunt the wind. Find the food, cover and trails. Hunt them all at different times. Hunt the wind.
