Default scored new land to hunt....

just wondering what everyone though about this situation. i just landed this property to hunt. i haven't been out there to look as of yet but planning on soon. i have talked to the owner quite a few times and found out about the where when and what is seen. they have the deer pretty much pin pointed on the land and even told me where to go. (this land has NOT been touched in the past 7 years...... by either gun or bow)
here's the thing, there is a creek that runs through it and i was told by the owner that you'll know when your getting close to it because you'll sink. he was about 35-40 yards away and sank up to his knees in the mud. how do you thik the deer will react to this mud? i see them go through tons of mud and muck all the time but what about this stuff being that they could possible seriously get stuck in it. do you think they will avoid it like black death.

thanks in advance

Maybe not like the black death, but they won't go through there unless they have to. Deer aren't any different than any other animal, they will take the path of least resistance whenever possible. That is why things such as saddles on ridge tops are such good funneling areas. If you can find a place that is dry through that swampy area, you just may want to hunt there.

ok thanks. my initial thinking wasn't to far off, i was thinking -- just walk the edge until i find a more steady ground both ways to find a crossing point and mybe i'll strike it rich....

thanks for the input huntingson.

i can't wait to get out there ( mid-january-- because season ends here jan 7th.) and see what i can find. there has got to be some good mature deer on this land. there's also some public about 600 acres that island locked by this but no way to get on it anymore unless you have a friens that ownes the land that butts up to it and will allow you to go through.

if the deer have been there long enough then they know it is there and stay away from it,trust me.

Looking around will help. If they do or don't it's a usable obstacle. Congrats on the new place.
