After about 12 years with my pearson spoiler cam, easton xx75 arrows & 125 thunderheads I decided to make a change. I treated myself to a mathews SQ2. I have also switched to carbon arrows. Would I be better off switching to a mechanical broadhead or not. If so what would be a good one to try.

G-man i plan on buying the sq2 also if they don't come out with anything new and spectacular in 2002. Any reason why you didn't wait? just a question? i use mech. broadheads so i'm kinda partial. however i am sure there are some guys on here that will be able to answer your question.

Impossible to say with the information given. How much weight are you shooting, how long is your arrow, how heavy are the arrows you are shooting and at what speed? In other words what is the kenetic energy of your arrow at your maximum shooting range. I can make this recommendation if you are shooting turkeys, rabbits, and deer at close range a mechanical probably has a great advantage. I also believe that if you are shooting Deer at ranges of 30 yds on out or Large animals like Elk, Moose, Bear, Hogs you should probably use a good flying fixed blade head personally the muzzy 100 or 125's are a great head.

If you are shooting with 55 ft/lbs or better, you can use some of the smaller diameter mechanicals, 1 1/4" or less with good results. I personaly feel though that if you can get fixed blade heads to shoot well, then in most situations you will be better of with a fixed blade head. I am not anti-mechanical, but I do have a prefernce for fixed blade heads, and I feel if you have to ask the question, a fixed blade head will most likely be a better choice.

Oregon has outlawed mech. heads, could this be a trend? I've had 70% pass-thru's on elk and all but one on deer with 125 Muzzy fixed blades, why change? I think this sport is becoming too commercialized remember there has been more game killed with stone tips than stainless. The first and best advise I got when starting was if something can go wrong it will.

I had done a lot of research and didn't hear anything bad about mathews. I chose the SQ2 because of it's size, weight and brace height. The only word to describe the way this bow shoots is SWEET.As for buying the bow this time of year I figured I had better get it while I had the money.

This past season I used the Snyper expandable and shot 4 deer and all were pass throughs. All died less than 100 yards. Shots were at all different angles. I shoot a Q2, 60#, ICSH 400 withe the 100 grain Snyper. I'm real pleased with the performance of these blades.
