The shot has always been the easiest part of the hunt. The biggest advantage of modern archery equipment (in my opinion) is consistency. You still have to get within 20 yards of the beast (or get the beast within 20 yards of you)! The snap of a twig, a change in wind direction, or an alert doe that you didn't see, can all change the outcome of your hunt. With all the talk about unfair advantage, why doesn't anyone ever mention carbon clothing or scent-killing spray?

I think it's up to each individual to make his or her hunt as challenging as they want it to be.

IMO, many of the same people that feel that less practice is required due to using a compound are the same people that end up flubbing the shot because they never made it to autopilot due to a lack of serious practice time.
That could be true. But I have seen 3-d superstars fail repeatly in the woods on the same note. And I have seen people with "nerves of steal", who don't consistantly practice (who dust the bows off a week or two before the season) or compete thoughout the year never falter when that big buck walks in.

Of course I don't advocate not practicing.

think of the technological advances in the last 100 or so from electricity to phones to cars to planes to computers, heckI`m 33 and we didn`t even have computersyet when I was in high school but we did have compound bows in the 70`s,so comparitively archery has`nt advanced as much as you would have thaught it would have in that much time,in the last 4 years not much has changed imho, slight changes here and there

Point taken. Once again, this is just my opinion, but like anything else most guys will benefit greatly from more practice than going in cold. For me, I just like to shoot. A by product of that is when the moment of truth comes I really don't think about my shot other than picking a spot. Everything else happens on it's own.

This is a good topic.

IM GLAD THEY ARE GETTING EASIER TO SHOOT, BUT NOT FOR MY SAKE. I LOVE TO PRACTICE BUT THERE ARE THOSE WHO ONLY PRACTISE MINIMALY AND IF THEY WERE SOOTING THE EQUIPTMENT FROM 20 YEARS AGO THERE WOULD BE ALOT MORE WOUNDED DEER IN THE WOODS LEFT TO SUFFER.
