Already going through withdrawl!

Please help me. I am already going through Bowhunting withdrawl and our season in PA only ended on saturday. I'm pacing around the house like a lost puppy dog. All of you guys who have states that actually let you hunt the rut consider yourselves very lucky. PA stinks like that! They throw all of these gun seasons in our bow season and then they don't let us hunt the rut.[:@][:'(]I'm already thinking of ways to tinker with my setups like adding more weight to my arrows for my recurve next year to get more KE. yeah here in PA we have a late archery season that runs from Dec 25th to mid Jan but we all know what kind of challenge it is to hunt that time of year.Yeah we have our 2 week rifle season coming up in 2 weeks but it is just not the same having to fight the orange army here in pa. Just needed to vent a little guys. Thanks

RE: Already going through withdrawl!

I'm going through withdrawls as well, fortunately for me, our late season opens on the 20th.

From the sounds of it, I'll be hunting the peak of the rut this year.

A couple bucks were taken off the property a few miles from ours last weekend (modern firearm). Their necks weren't swollen and their tarsals weren't that dark. We've just recently started noticing fresh rubs and scrapes.

I can't wait.

RE: Already going through withdrawl!

That would suck. Here in IA, we get to bowhunt from Oct 1 to Dec 1 with only a 7 day muzzleloader season in mid oct. No guns allowed during the rut; that's why our deer get big. Then shotgun season opens for the 1st 3 weeks in Dec. and closesand then us bowhunters and muzzleloaders get to hunt until Jan 10th. Now that is a bow season.

Hey dude, come on down to Missouri. I've got some good public ground we could hunt, and besides, we have till January 15. :D:D:D

PA Hardwoods 11-13-2006 06:21 PM

RE: Already going through withdrawl!

Yeah in PA us bowhunters have the first 2 weeks of the season to ourselves which opens the first saturday of OCT. Then we have a 2 week doe onlymuzzleloader season that overlaps along with small game and then the last 3days of the muzzleloader season they have a doe only youth, serviceman, and senior citizen rifle season. Then we have about 5 days that it is just us and small game hunters. Then we have our fall turkey season that runs equally to the end of archery season. Trust me it really stinks. Oh the game commission was really generous this year giving us bowhunters a 2 day archery only bear season. That opens next week I think. Oh did I mention they made those 2 days in the middle of the week.[:'(][:@] So i'm sure there will be lots of guys who will be able to get out. Yeah Right.[:'(]

Man, you aren't kidding. It literally was painful last night when I listed my XT on ebay because season was over for me. [&:]

10 1/2 months to go...........[:'(]

RE: Already going through withdrawl!

Everything is bigger in TX. Season is, Archery 9/30-10/29, General,( guns ,bows MLs), 11/04-1/07/07. With generous bag limits to boot. And when it all comes to an end and the season is closed I can go kill hogs with a bow or whatever I choose. There is no closed season on hogs. Sorry, I almost feel like I'm gloating. Withdrawal is not a problem here.

mobowhntr I would love to take you up on that. Vacation days are already running a bit thin. 3 weeks a year is deffinitly not enough. This work stuff is getting in the way of my hunting. What part of MO do you live? My sister-in-law lives near Bentonville Arkansas (Wal-Mart Country) in the northwest corner or Arkansas. It's not too far away from MO.

Gotta love that 4 months of bowhunting right mobow! But anyway it is always a bummer when the season closes no matter what state you live in and how long the season lasts.

RE: Already going through withdrawl!

PA, I'm about.....5 hours from there. I live roughly 60 miles due west of St. Louis.

I know what you mean about the vacation....I only get 16 days a year, and I'm down to 5 left. I burn 'em up pretty quick in the fall. Keep the offer in mind, though. I've got a decent public spot that holds LOTS of does, and camping isn't a problem.

I will definitly keep it in mind. I appreciate the offer. I'm not picky, I'm just as happy with a doe as I am with a buck. They all are special to me. I think maybe a trip is in order for next year. ;):DSounds like itwould be a great time. I always love camping, and I could think of nothing better than to pair it with hunting.:D

I suppose you could even bring that Rob fella along.....[&:][&:][&:]

Why in the world is yer all's season so darn......short?? That's ....odd, I think.

PA Hardwoods 11-13-2006 07:12 PM

RE: Already going through withdrawl!

I don't know if I'd want to bring that Rob fella along? Well I guess I could. As long as he doesn't snore. We could make him be all-time camera man.:D;).

As far as the season, I don't know why it is so short. We do have our late archery season that runs from Dec 26th to mid january but even that runs concurent with our flintlock only season. The PA Game Commission really seems to give us PA bowhunters the shaft. Well I guess they have to please the Orange Army.

Yea PA it sure hurts when it's over. I'm glad I got a while before I have to go through any withdrawl. Actually I was going through withdrawl for a few days, then I convinced myself to buy a firearms tag so I could hunt during firearms season.

I love shooting does...what is the public ground you speak of? Rut is on good here in MO mobow...Had 6 deer come crashing through when I was half way down the tree.[:@] Chasing grunting and carrying on all right after dark. Mo, you sell the bow yet? Gonna be tough to let her go. Do you have a backup that you can use for the rest of the season?

Sorry for the hijack...carry on.:D

Not to rub it in but my season in Texas goes from Sept 30 to Jan 28. And don't forget, we can hunt hogs, varmints & exotics all year long. :)

Well, MO hijacked it, so I guess I'm just a follower....:D:D

Now, MO, you know I can't reveal WHERE.......you'll just have to see for yourself. ;) I'll give you this...it's North of Hermann and South of Iowa. ;)

Yes, I have a backup bow, and no, I haven't sold it yet. I've got my 10 y/o Proline Riptide to fall back on. Good thing I work at an archery shop, I can get a new one, but man.....I just don't wanna!! I love that bow. [&o]

I haven't seen a buck chase a doe all season.....But I'll be back at it Friday.

Ouch!
CT has a great bow hunting season!
First Season Sep 15 - Dec 30, Second season Jan 2 - Jan 31 You have to wear 200 inches of orange for a few weeks, but that's OK cause I usually have a shotgun or muzzle loader then anyway, and the second season is only private land! That's 4.5 monthsworth of bow huntingover here in CT! Oh, you can shoot like 13 deer altogether too! Not to mention over half the state parks allow only bow hunters!!!

Yeah Why not. We could hunt Elk and mulies in MT then swing down to MO, then over to OK and finally south to TX. Sounds like an Ultimate road trip to me. At this rate i'm gonna have to quit my job to fit all of this hunting in.[8D]Bows ONLY of course.

Sounds like a plan, but while we are in Montana we should slide through Wyoming where my whole family lives and I have a couple 100,000 acres to hunt antelope. Then we can head south. Actually I was working on getting Chuck to hunt hogs with me (he's coming down for the Cowboys game over christmas) but it looks like I'll be in a sling after the surgery.

Journeyman, well done on the catch... must have been a typo.

Sure why not Dustin. Wyoming would be a blast too. Add Wyoming to the list. Lets see WY, MT, MO, OK, and then TX. Anywhere else? Man I'd have to seriously save up for a trip like that. Lets say we save for 3 years guys and do it then. Who's in? I hear Rob/PA Bowyer wants to be all-time camera man since he has all that experience from this year.;)
