I also live in Indiana and I think that spotlighting is fun. It lets you see what bucks are cruising at night. It can also tell you where a particular buck is coming out of the woods at. By this it will give you a good idea on where to put a stand.

Don't get caught doing it in Louisiana. It is illegal year round, gun or no gun, and they are pretty strict about it.

MO is pretty strict as well. You cant spotlight or even use your car lights to shine into a field. I have never got caught but i do use my car sometimes to look into a field if i see eyes. Noone hunts where i do it tho so it doesnt really matter.

I enjoy spotlighting also. Great way to see the deer that are around, even the DNR uses it in MI to get counts on population.

I've seen deer running towards the road while shining that I wouldn't have seen without the light. It makes me wonder how many times I might have hit one with my truck if I wasn't looking in the fields and ditches with a spotlight.
