someone shoots a deer, than you shoot it, now what?

If I were shooter #1 and made a good lethal shot I would expect that shooter #2 would agree that it is my deer.
If I am shooter #2 and shooter #1 made a good lethal shot then I wouldn't even think about tagging it.

If I(or anyone)shot is lethel he is not even going that far. Unless someone is hunting on top of us, we should not have to worry.
If it is on feet and I stick and it goes down, my deer, if I see it go down I help the guy out.
Last week I saw a deer hit run into the river. She died just before she got to the other side. I went in my boat and retrieved the deer. When my neighbors came to shore I took them the deer. We nodded to each other and went are seperate ways.
My neighbors do not like me, and I do not like them, but it was their deer.

This happened to me when I was 15. We that is to say my brother in law and myself scared up a really nice 8 point while making a push. I came right out by me about 40 yards away. I put my gun up on him and when I did he snorted and took I shot he went down only to get back up again. I shot again keep in mind this deer is running through the woods. I hit him again but high and back just below the spine. He went down then also but got back up. He happen to run right twards my brother in law and who was only like 50 yards from me and he downed him. Of course in his eyes it was his deer and in my familys eyes it was mine. As we always hunted as a family that whoever draws first blood it's there deer. It was an 18 inch inside spread and the largest deer I ever shot and I am now 38 years old. I just grit my teeth every time I have to look at it on his wall. IMO he who draws first blood gets the deer.

This is a funny story, 2 years ago on opening morning of deer season one of my uncles friendshot a fairly nice buck. (9 pointer probably around 120 inches; nothing too special.) wellabout 15-20 minutes before he got this deer we heard a shot on the neighbors land. anyway fastfoward about a hour and a half. we had the deer field dressed and hangin. the other landowner came over bc he said that a buck he had hit good came over on our land. well we showed him this deer and he claimed it as his own. but that is impossible because my uncles friend dropped him in his tracks and there was only 1 entrance and 1 exit hole. After a big dispute and a lot of wasted time he got it through his thick head that he had a clean miss. Even though this probably doesnt solve your problem, it was closely related so i thought i would share

This happen to my dad, a neighbor shot one in the rump. It crossed the river and the guy shot it on our side in the guts(I watch him). Dad went and fond the deer still alive and killed.
It was a nice 12, Dad kept it, why the neighbors do not like us.
Each event is differnet, I do not think there is a rubber stamp fix.

I hunt on private land only.....and I have sole permission to be on that land.
If a deer someone else shoots....has enough life in him/her to make it to me......then I don't care what anyone says......"I" will make the decision as to whether or not "I" want to "Give" them the deer.
And make no mistake about it.....it would be a "Gift".
I hope this never happens.....but if it's a big daddy.....still on the hoof.....and it comes by me...........
......honestly.....I'd assess the wound it had....and base my decision from there. If I thought the original wound was fatal.....and the party that shot first has the wherewithall to track the deer to me........we'll talk....and I'd likely relinquish the deer to them.
That's me, though. I could totally understand someone keeping it.
